Disability / PFL Extension

Hey mommas I’m hoping to get some advise on how I can advocate for myself to extend my disability or paid family leave. I had my baby boy 3 weeks early and now my california paid leave it set to end mid December instead of mid January. My job is very high stress and I think it caused the issues I had during my last trimester. I work hybrid M-F 8am-5pm, and on call from 5pm - 5am during busy seasons. I’m set to come back during busy season and it stresses me out so much to get a call in the night time with a little one trying to sleep or in a middle of a feeding. It was already difficult enough being pregnant / non pregnant and taking night calls. Ive tried to look for a different job but it’s been difficult. How can I advocate and explain this in a way to extend my leave to February? Or is this even possible to extend? I’ll take any advice and tips I can get 🩵

Well, first it has to be disability getting extended because paid family leave cannot be extended. So first use up all your disability before applying for your paid family leave. i asked to meet with a psychiatrist, where I explained my situation. High stress job, needing more time to bond with baby, slight PPA, they had me join a weekly check-in mom group and I was able to get my disability extended 12 weeks.

I also met with a psychiatrist who helped with this process. I had a lot of stress in my relationship and moved multiple times so the extended disability was definitely necessary
