Dairy, egg, & soya free due to BF baby’s allergies. What do I eat??? 😭

We just saw a specialist pediatrician. I’ve already cut out dairy for almost 2 months which has been REALLY hard and he strongly suggested cutting the other two as well. Does anyone else have to do this? What can I eat other than meat, veggies, fruit?

Supermarkets have an isle called "free from" where you get flour, bread, yoghurts, frozen food. You won't be without food, but could potentially be without money as free from is expensive

Look up some vegan recipes and start from there! Then the only thing you’d have to watch out for is the soy, and it’s easier to add meat into a vegan dish than eliminating stuff out of one. There’s a learning curve while you figure out which ingredients to use for sure, but once you get going it’s easy to maintain. My husband and I just tried to make it fun and explore different recipes/ingredients each week.

First, I would ask the Dr how can we confirm that those exclusions are actually necessary. A lot of Drs ask you to exclude soy with milk allergy. And then egg, just in case. And maybe you don't have to. So they should follow a path to confirm *each one* of the suspected allergies. Don't just accept his suggestion. Ask to see a dietitian or an allergist if he doesn't know how.

If the allergies have been confirmed you can eat the other zillion foods available. Legumes, seeds, nuts, meat, fruits and veggies. Actually you end up having a healthier diet as you exclude processed foods.

Thank you everyone! that makes sense. He’s a pediatric allergy specialist and basically said 90% if the time of it’s dairy it’s also soy, and she’s still been having some issues so trying that next 🤞🤞

She can be properly tested at 4 months so I have the appointment for that set in early Dec. I’m suspecting IGE because the reaction was so bad

I’ll definitely start looking at all these foods mentioned!

But did he give you instructions on how to confirm each one?

And no, it's not 90% with soy. It's 90% with other mammals' milk. With soy it is between 30 - 50%. So I would still look for confirmation as soy is in plenty of things and if there is a slight chance you can tolerate it, you want it in your and your LO's diet.

And allergy testing tends to give false positives, the gold standard is tested by eating the food.

Gotcha. He didn’t, I assume I just cut another one out next as we already confirmed the dairy and I’m already off that. Things have gotten a lot better since cutting the dairy but she still has tummy problems and is rashy some days

My sister can't have gluten, eggs, or dairy so helped her do a bunch of food tasting! Ping me if you want details but here are some!

Annie's brand Mac N Cheese is her quick meal
Skinny Pop White Cheddar Popcorn for a crunchy snack
Smart Balance Olive Oil butter she liked more then the butter in the vegan section

I always keep some Amy's frozen burritos in my freezer for when she visits.

Also one thing that did her. In was she cut all of that at once like the doctor told her and doesn't know which one cutting made her feel better. In order for them to do the allergy test to confirm allergies you have to have it in your system. The issue is she stopped them all for so long eating them makes her sick so she can't get an official allergy test as she can't eat them.

If cutting dairy didn't fix it ask about adding dairy back in and stopping another food one at a time.

We’re also on infant gaviscon for silent reflux but he recommends stopping that

thank you! I’m from the US but live in the UK, need to see if we have those brands here!

Yeah dairy was definitely the main culprit. Her really really bad rash went away, green mucusy poops went to normal yellow, and she stopped wheezing. But there’s clearly something else still there, just not as bad as the dairy I think. Will try soy next!

A dietitian can guide you with food introductions, ladders and the handouts with some brands of products to try.
