And I respectfully declined š Iām sorry but I would like to keep work at work.
Depending on your job, do you check your work email outside of work on your off day?

My last job I would but that's because we had a company phone that came home with us and they'd send updates like where we were starting work or if we weren't working certain days because it was snowing too much

Iām self employed. Self admittedly I check my email far too little, especially when I am on a break or vacation. LMFAOOO

Iām a SAHM now but I learnt the hard way after working my ass off for a family run company for like 9 years and then I had a baby and begged them to let me reduce my hours so I could finish one day at 12pm.
Baring in mind I worked 730-6pm every other day, went In on weekends, brought resources out my own pocket etc etc. They said no. I said well Iāll have to look for something else and I thought theyād care - they didnāt, replaced me very quickly.
The next nursery I worked my manager made a comment about how āmost deputyās do this kinda work in their spare timeā so I was like ādo I get paid for that?ā And when she very awkwardly said āitās dedication to the companyā and I was like my dedication to my family is far more important than this place.
Never again! You are completely replaceable to most companies!! Xx

I work on a farm so I don't do a lot with email but I check our herd monitoring system frequently and will occasionally go back in of something needs done

I have a separate phone for work emails. I will check it randomly after my shift ends but I donāt respond to anything after 5 pm unless itās urgent

Iām a SAHM now but when I was working I never checked my email at home. Had a desktop computer and a landline at my desk, Iād check emails and messages when I got there in the morning.

Good for you. Obviously it depends on the job, but thatās the way it should be.

Iām a paralegal so yes š„“š¤£ we really canāt help it, and something is ALWAYS on fire. Thereās always a trial, a schedule issue, surveillance Iām waiting on, etc. I live and die by deadline and billing so at least I can charge for every time I do. But I get serious anxiety if I donāt at least scroll through, even on weekends, so Iām ahead of what the needs are on my cases when I clock back in.

Never!

this is confirmation I made the right choice to not become a paralegal LOLOL

no FOR REAL! Iāve had so many people who want to pick my brain about getting into law, and after 15 years Iām like you either love it or hate it. This is noooooot for everybody, because work/life balance is war 𤣠Iām some kind of masochist, seriously.

Yes but just to prepare myself for the following day. I donāt answer emails outside of business hours.

I think itās important to have boundaries between work and personal life. If they want you to check your email outside of work then they can give you a phone to do so, even then I only do it within work hours unless there is something really important needed. Itās not healthy for you or your kids for you to always be on work time and I hate the expectation of some managers that you are. I changed teams at work to a boss who is very strict on working only your contracted hours - the team works hard and fast during those hours and is much more efficient because of it.

I talked to a few paralegals & the head of the law department at the college I was at & I was like yeahhhhhhhh no, I canāt do that much writing. LMFAOOO

at least they were honest and saved you the headache! Iām literally knee deep in writing memoranda on a 400 page document I have to read so the attorneys wonāt have to right now. 𤣠whatās more hilarious is I had a teacher in grade school tell me I was using too many big words and to āwrite for my peersā, I told her I ārefused to acquiesceā. She called my mom. Now I get paid for writing in the most difficult way possible, henceforth LMAOOOO.

Yes, I did. I also had Authenticator on my phone so I could log into the network and do extra work at home. I wonder why I burnt out...

If you need your email on your phone, they need to give you a phone first. Then, the expected hours you should dedicate while at home need to be defined and in your contract.

I used to work in celebrity PR and had to. My phone would be going off all hours of the day with emails, calls, whatsapps etc. and my boss would freak if I didnāt answer. I now work in finance with a separate work phone, which gets switched off when I leave the office š

I work at a hotel and so on my days off I like to keep up with whatās going on so when I come in on Monday I know what to prepare myself for

Im a SAHM now, but when I was a teacher I refused to answer work emails outside work hours and I told all my students this. I never assigned homework, so there truly was no reason for a student needing me outside of class hours.

No, and I would "tell off" my team if I caught them working on their days off! (I work in engineering, and nothing is THAT urgent)
