Honest opinions on the name Teddy/Teddie

I absolutely love Teddy/Teddie for our little baby but partner thinks it’s not a name that will age with him. We don’t like any names that are shortened to Teddy so that’s not an option.
Is Teddy a name just for a cute baby/child and won’t age into adulthood for them? Honestly ..

I agree with your partner… Very cute for a little boy though.

Do you not like a name Theodore? It is a nice strong name which you could shorten to Teddy

I love Theodore but partner does not, he doesn’t like any of the names shorten to Teddy.

Edward?

This name has a beautiful meaning too… a divine gift or something similar. But if your partner doesn’t like it, then it’s not an option. It’s important that you both like the name.

I have stated this in the post, only Teddy no other names.

There’s loads of names these days that people will probably think ‘imagine an adult called that’ but then when they’re all adults them names will be the norm 🤣. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with teddy. We have Theodore but everyone calls him Teddy and probably always will unless he specifically states otherwise when he’s older

i agree that Teddy is cute for a boy and I think it could suit an adult - kinda just depends on the individual. for example, there are some adult men who go by the name Danny, which is more of a "childish" nickname but really suits them, butthere are others who wouldn't suit that at all, and go by Dan - if that makes sense.

i understand your partner's concerns - but if he doesn't like Teddy/Teddie when he is older, your son would still have the option of shortening it to Ted or Ed. 💙

and while I appreciate you don't want suggestions and don't like any of them longer names for Teddy - have you thought more outside the box? there are quite a few boy's names which mean "bear" so Teddy could work as a nickname - but they aren't your typical Theodore or Edward. names like Arthur/Art, Barrett, Orson, Esben, Auberon, Bernard, Torben etc - even Rupert, more of a tangent but it could work! obvs just a suggestion though, so feel free to ignore!

I agree with your partner, for me it's a super cute name for a child but as an adult pretty awkward and childlike. I just thought you may not have thought of Edward as the more common one is Theodore. I think it's important that both parents like the name so perhaps it's just the case that Teddy and any longer variants are both off the table. Sorry that sucks. I had an awfully hard time naming my daughter as we couldn't agree.

I really like Teddy, as they get older they could always change to Ted. But I've named my son Sunny which also perhaps is a bit little boy like 😂

My nephew is named Edward but gets called Teddy, he's now 5 and already getting sick of being called Teddy because he says its a "baby name" i can't really disagree with him tbh, it's really cute but I think into older childhood/adulthood it could become a burden

I absolutely love the name Theo and just use Teddy as a nickname!

We named one of our boys Ted for that reason but we and everyone else call him Teddy 🙂 but for job purposes when he’s older he’s got a more “mature” official name

Avatar

I really like the name but I agree that it might not age well with him x

Avatar

My nephew is Teddi, the older he gets it’s still suiting him, sometimes call him ted or teds 💙

my little girl is called Tedi . i know not for everyone (especially as she is a girl) but we absolutely love it and wouldn’t of wanted to call her anything else we fell in love with the name early on into my pregnancy 🩷🧸
