My little girl is 6.5 months and we’re using aptimel formula but when should we move her to follow on milk 2 from 1?

My little boy is the same age and we use the same milk formula but my HV told me it was fine to keep him on number 1 as number is exactly the same just advertised differently so she said there was no need to change it x

I believe the follow on milk says 6-12 months. However, speak to your HV.

Midwife here, first milk is recommended until 1/moving on to cows milk. The only reason follow-on milk exists is because of laws around advertising and being able to charge more believe it or not!

@Rachel that's exactly what my HV said they do it to be able to charge more, it's awful isn't it x

I was told by my health visitor to make the switch at 6 months and when you start weaning as number 2 has more minerals needed for the babies higher weight. Both formulas are pretty much the same tho, but for this reason I made the switch at 6 months old but still breast feed morning/night as normal x

I switched with my first because it worked out cheaper getting stage 2! We got it in boots, it goes on offer and you get the Clubcard points too xx

Just keep using your normal formula ☺️ follow on milk is not necessary for little ones, it was invented by milk manufacturers as a way to be able to advertise their brand as the advertising of infant formula is banned in order to prevent companies from promoting formula feeding over breastfeeding.
