5 month old baby boy weight concerns

Hi moms! My baby boy turned 5 months today and weighs 6.8 kg. He is exclusively breastfed, and according to the growth charts, his weight seems a bit below average for his age. Has anyone else experienced slower weight gain with a breastfed baby? Any advice or tips to support his growth? Thanks in advance!

Yes I have and still somewhat. My baby is 5 months old as well, I weighed her two werks ago and she was 14 lbs. I believe 6,5 kg if I'm not mistaken? She was tongue tied and we had that corrected at 12 weeks, so that could factor into it still.. but also, my husband and I are both small... so I'm not too concerned. I believe those weight charts arw based on formula fed babies.. how does your baby LOOK and ACT? Does he look unhealthy to you? How is his general mood and temperament? How many wet and poopy diapers a day? I believe these are far more important factors to consider.

My lil one is 5 months old n just hit 12 pounds 8 ozs he be under his weight mark since about 3 1/2 months old n he’s was only breast feed he’s now breast feed n formula feed n gets 1 thing of baby food a day n cereal in his bottles to help boost his weight we’re hoping it inproves by is 6 month check up cause so far he’s only gained 2 oz!!! If ur lil one swallows bottle with no issues u can add 3 spoons of baby food or a lil cereal

Thank you for your response! My baby is also acting normal overall, and I agree that weight isn't the only important factor. He has been a bit fussy at times, especially with teething starting around 4 months, but I'm hoping that will get better as it progresses. He still resists eating sometimes, especially during those teething episodes, but he has periods where he eats well. He also had colic in the early months, but that seems to be improving. He’s generally in a good mood otherwise, and his wet and poopy diapers seem to be in a normal range. I really appreciate your reassurance—it helps to hear others' experiences!

Thanks for sharing! It sounds like you’re doing everything you can to help your little one, and I’m sure the weight will improve with time. My baby has been breastfed and is now starting to resist a bit at times, especially with teething, but he seems to be doing okay overall. I’ll definitely keep in mind adding some baby food or cereal to his bottles if he continues to have feeding challenges. Wishing you the best with your little one’s progress—I hope things improve at the 6-month check-up

My baby also resists some nursing since teething, it's totally normal :) but I agree about feeding solids if you are still concerned.

Those charts are there to see if your baby is following their own curve. That's all you're looking for when looking at them. It doesn't matter if they're not the same as other babies their own age, every baby is different and grows differently. 50th percentile for example means 50% of babies are bigger than your baby and 50% are smaller. 6th percentile would mean 94% of babies are bigger at that age and 6% are smaller
