Anyone else’s baby just not really fussed about food?

My 8 month old is barely interested in food. Some days she won’t eat a single thing we offer, others she seems more keen and has a tiny bit. Foods she’s liked and eaten a decent (for her) amount of one day, she will not eat any of the next time. She’s EBF and we started giving solids at around 6.5 months. We’ve always given a mixture of BLW and purées, but she really hates being spoon fed so we don’t even get much into her that way. She’s mainly had homemade stuff but recently we tried some pouches also. I see such conflicting advice/recommendations on what is “normal” but seems most people on here say their babies eat multiple meals a day by this age 🤷🏼‍♀️

I could have written this myself - like exactly word for word!! Not much advice but just to say you’re not alone. I’m just going to keep trying with offering the food and hoping one day it will just come. Think it’s all about perseverance but I do get stressed seeing how much other 8 months babies eat, so try my best to not look/keep scrolling whenever I do see that. My baby also hates been spoon fed 🫠

Ah such a relief to hear other people say this as my daughter is the same. Any slight hint of a cold or teething she eats nothing except EBF too. She seems v satisfied and no issues. My son guzzled food down from the off so it’s v difficult not to compare and worry. Good luck everyone I’m sure it will be fine if we are persistent x

@Polly I have started to do that too and just scroll past! It’s reassuring to know that we’re not the only ones with a baby like this, like you say we keep persevering but it’s so disheartening when you’ve made something and she doesn’t even put it near her mouth 🙃

@Lucy yeh I think her first two teeth coming through affected her eating, but I don’t think I can fully put it down to that cos it’s not ever been great 😂 We’re the same though, her weight and growth have always been good so I’m reluctant to make a thing about it yet

My little boy is 9 months corrected (born 6 weeks early) and is pretty much the same. There's a couple of meals he enjoys but most meal times it's a few mouthfuls and done. We also started at breakfast and dinner and I've noticed he has little to no interest in breakfast so we have started to do lunch and dinner. I did notice quite a difference between 8 and 9 months that he has started taking more at each meal, so all I would say is keep persevering as hard as it is! My little boy is bottle fed, also completely goes off solids (and bottles 🫠) when teething. He also refuses to eat pouches completely so everything has to be home made. I find doing scrambled egg, avocado with soft cheese and things makes it a but easier as you don't spend absolutely ages making them. Weve also frozen a few portions of Sunday dinners and that's the one meal that he is guaranteed to wolf down 😂 Good luck and hope you see some improvement soon!

@Kirsty thank you 🤞🏻 It is hard to find the optimum time between feeds and sleep! We tend to do breakfast and then lunch, but have started to try and do something in her last wake window too. She’s still having single foods for the most part, but we have covered a lot so far. When we have made her nice things like banana pancakes or potato tots etc, she doesn’t eat them. But I’m conscious that if we’re not giving her tasty, interesting things she’ll never eat 🫠

My daughter is 8m and exactly the same . I spend ages making home cooked meal or giving her something nutritious for BLW and she isn’t one bit interested !! She does like meat when I’m eating it I’ll give her some but literally a tiny bit here and there and she’s done ! Far too much for the boob haha

I definitely tried to take a step back from making as much specifically for him and just blended whatever we were eating and adapting it if needed, that way it didn't feel as disheartening if he didn't touch it. Weve found he actually prefers our food and has had a few mouthfuls of pie and mash, fishcakes and dinners. Seems to be a potato theme though 😂 It will come, just go with the flow. There isn't one adult I know that still only drinks milk haha (that's what I keep telling myself 😅)
