Do y’all wake your babies for diaper changes?

My baby is a month old and doesn’t wake up at night time. She sleeps 6 hours at night then wakes up to eat and that’s when i do a diaper change. During that 6 hours she fills her diaper so much it looks ridiculously puffy from the very front all the way to the very back. She doesn’t wake up uncomfortable from it and the pediatrician said it’s not necessary to wake her up to eat but should i wake her for a diaper change? My husband thinks it’s time to size up since the newborn diapers are fitting her just right but i’m not sure if that’ll make a difference.

I would change babies diaper every 2 hrs at night even if she doesn't want to wake to eat. Sometimes you need for them to wake just to feed. My pediatrician said newborns shouldn't go longer then 4 hrs without eating even at night.

Something doesn’t seem right about sitting in a wet or soiled diaper for 6 hours. It’s like asking for a terrible diaper rash.

I'd size up to make it more comfortable (assuming it's not so big it'll lead to leaks). But no I wouldn't wake a baby just to do a diaper change. I absolutely do not wake my baby when he sleeps and that has meant he's gone 6 hours without a diaper change - he is fine. Keep in mind if you changed diaper before bed she likely didn't absolutely ruin the diaper in the next 30 minutes. So she's not sitting in pee for the full 6 hours (and anyways, diapers are really good at moisture wicking! She probably isn't noticing if it's just pee) Honestly esp since babies really have to learn to roll from one sleep cycle to the next without waking. Let her get in as much practice as she can!

I never wake my baby up first anything sometimes she will wake up after 6 hours sometimes she will wake up after 30 minutes. She is gaining weight normally and producing adequate diapers. As far as diapers go, I never only change my baby’s diaper when she wakes up. If she’s awake I will always feed her. Maybe you could try feeding her a little less at night so she wakes up?

Because their skin is so sensitive I would change her even if she doesn’t wake up

Lately my baby has been sleeping for 6 hours at night too but I never change him during that time frame unless he’s poopy. He hasn’t gotten a rash yet but his diapers are never super full. I also put Vaseline on his butt every diaper change though and we sized him up in diapers

Dr had recommend to us if she’s at her weight goal not to wake her unless she wakes up and for the diaper if it’s full just change it without a wipe otherwise just let her sleep. Sometimes I need to change her in the middle of the night sometimes she lasts til 5 am and then gets a change small bottle and goes back to sleep til 7-8. Mine is also now almost 4 months old

@Monica her doctor said there’s no need to wake her for feedings at night anymore. During the day we don’t let her go more than 3 hours without waking her to eat and changing her diaper.

@Natty i was concerned about that too but she hasn’t had a rash yet. I apply aquaphor after every diaper change so i want to say that’s been preventing diaper rashes.

In that case, I would just check and change her diaper at the 3rd or 4th hour just to avoid her sleeping in a puffy diaper.

@Purna during the day i never let her go more than 3 hours without feeding and changing her. Most of the time she gets hungry or poops/pees before that so i will feed and change her as needed but she sleeps longer stretches at night.

I change my baby every time I notice her diaper is wet or if I noticed she poop. I never let her go with a dirty diaper if I’m aware of it.

@Cali i do the same during the day but at night i don’t wake up unless she does. I’m not the type of person who wakes up randomly multiple times in the middle of the night so I’m thinking of setting an alarm in between those 6 hours she’s sleeping to change her because she typically doesn’t wake up until she’s hungry and ready to start the day.
