We’ve been trialling pepti 1 for about 4 weeks and our baby has been so much more settled. We originally took him to the doctors because he had reflux and bad constipation and dry skin. We started omeprazole and pepti and it helped all of his symptoms.
Anyways, the docs told us we had to go back to cows milk formula to see whether symptoms came back to confirm if it was actually CMPA. So today we put him back onto aptamil and at first he was fine but as the days got it he’s so uncomfortable and straining lots.
Would symptoms come back that quickly? Do I need to try longer? I HATE seeing him uncomfortable and in pain so I’m completely stuck on what to do. I want to give him pepti again but I’m worried being on pepti his reflux is going to stay bad and be on omeprazole until he’s off milk. Has anyone else’s little ones been on omeprazole for a long time? Does it affect them in the long run?
Thanks guys x

I have no idea if this is a recommended option but I just thought could you add it in slower to ease the symptoms whilst still trialling the milk, for example 30mlAptamil and 90ml Pepti 1? And do this for a short period (unless it doesn’t ease the pain for him) and not a whole month, you can go back to the GP then to say how badly the symptoms are again but having not subjected your little one to the full milk? No idea, just thinking off the top of my head

thank you! Doctors told me to just go straight back onto aptamil to see if his symptoms came back and they did about 3 bottles in. He usually sleeps the entire night but I’ve been awake with him every hour as he’s squirming and uncomfortable. His next feed I’m just gunna go back to pepti as i can’t cope seeing him in pain bless him but thank you! Xx

We haven’t done the trial of going back to normal formula yet, but paediatrician said you give normal bottles and if symptoms come back then switch back straight away. No need to keep giving them something that’s making them in pain.
Have you tried thickening the Pepti milk with a tiny bit with carobel to help the reflux too? We tried but it gave my girl tummy ache but for some it works well a lot.
I think we are going to be on omeprazole a while too, fingers crossed by 6 months things will get better (apparently this is when reflux improves) but who knows x

yeah i should have said he’s also on thickener too, it helps him but not massively as we didn’t want him to get constipated again we only do half a scoop in a 5oz bottle. It seems to be working though! He gets unsettled rarely with his reflux which proves the omeprazole is working. I was genuinely just worried about him taking omeprazole for months and months as he’s only 3 months and has been on it already for 1 month and potentially 3 more. Aslong as it’s ok for them to be on it for a long time and no risks with it then I’m happy to keep him on it for now as it’s working for him. It genuinely broke my heart yesterday seeing him uncomfortable again, it was exactly what he was like before we started pepti and we as mothers know what’s best for our babies and I just knew instantly I wanted to put him back onto the pepti. Today he’s been back to himself and happy and settled! Xx

We did the trial, going from 2 weeks on pepti and then had to go back to old milk to test, literally the same day his symptoms came back so the doctor told us to go back to pepti and no symptoms now whatsoever after a month. Hope this helps!
