Postpartum recovery

I am 3 weeks postpartum and had our baby through vaginal delivery with a second degree tear. I hear some moms are out and about at this stage postpartum but I’m struggling to go on walks still and going up and down the stairs. I can walk my dog around the block and need to be back in 10 min cause otherwise my pelvic floor muscles start hurting, feeling like pressure down there. I want to give my body enough time to heal but I also want to be actives as needed. Wondering if other moms have had this experience too? Should I be resting more? Or when is it ok to push myself to go on longer walks?

It’s normal if you had stitches, mine had not dissolved completely with my first baby at 3 weeks, felt really sore and tender. I’m also 3 weeks with my second and didn’t tear that’s why I’ve been out and about.

I barely tore so I’m more open to being active now too, but you should honestly pace yourself. The last thing you need is to pop a stitch or tear because you’ve been overdoing it. At three weeks I still couldn’t stand in place for too long on concrete and I definitely wasn’t sitting cris-cross or going out. At 6wks now (Oct.28), but I can’t imagine walking much further than the mailbox and back. If anything, I’m just going to start with light crunches and lifting some weights while sitting. Take your time! ❤️

When baby gets older you can use him as a weight lol, mine is almost ten pounds so he’s about to be my bench press weight ❤️🫠

Even if you don’t tear just the wound from the placenta & the pelvic floor & ligaments need rest to recover properly .. generally if you are bleeding more with any activity it’s too much at that time .. there’s very gentle pt type exercises that you can do to help strengthen while you are resting during early recovery also (mostly about re engaging the muscles there, relearning normal breathing patterns & also increasing blood flow to speed up healing) if you can find a pelvic floor therapist online or irl or even just google exercises it can be very helpful

I’ve heard (from older women esp but also doctors & pt s) constantly how important it is to rest & recover properly to avoid more serious issues later in life or just down the line - don’t feel bad about taking some extra time - the turtle 🐢 parable applies here 😊

Thank you all! Hearing about your experiences and advice is so helpful and makes me feel more confident about taking it slowly in these first few weeks of recovery ❤️ really appreciate you all!

I have a 3 rd degree tear from a vaginal delivery I just got my pain management under control but I was wondering when can I walk my dogs again I’m 15-16 day’s postpartum.?!

Not in this group, but it popped up on my feed. I gave birth in January and was one of those moms who was doing too much within a month postpartum. (We had a lot going on, so I couldn't take it slow, unfortunately.) Anyway, I am still working on my pelvic floor rehabilitation now. I have to take medication to relax my bladder as well. My urologist had me go to the bathroom and void my bladder, and when I came back she did an ultrasound and I found out I had a whole 4 ounces of urine retention which is why I had to go so frequently and why I had UTI-type pain and symptoms constantly without actually having a UTI.

Point is: listen to your body now, and it will thank you later. Take your time, take it slow. ❤️

I’m 2 weeks PP with my 3rd baby, I had a vaginal delivery no shame in taking it slow especially the first 6 weeks. I would love if society would put more emphasis on this because we really be going through it. 10-15 mins seems to be my limit too before I start feeling achy down there.
