Belly button looking different

My baby is 9 weeks old and his belly button has changed a lot. Now it is sticking out and sometimes has a purpleish colour, I am concerned it could be a hernia. Has anyone had this and what specialist did you see? Thanks

My baby is just over 6 weeks and his belly button has started sticking out a lot too, and if you gently press around it it deflates a little (makes me feel a bit grossed out, but his Dad tried it). We mentioned it to the doc and health visitor during our check ups and they said it’s most likely an umbilical hernia, they’re apparently quite common and will hopefully right itself in the first year. Hope this helps 😊

Could be a hernia. No need to worry or see a specialist, they usually go away on their own before baby is 1. So they will leave it for a long time to see if it goes away on its own

how long did it take to fully go down? Thanks

Our little girl has an umbilical hernia. They reassess when they are 5-6 years old. If it doesn’t go down on its own and needs treatment they’ll do it then but most do! Xx

My 9 week old has this, umbilical hernias look worse than they are, but you can do what I do if it’s bothering you and place a dressing over the top just to help support it, my little one cries a lot from reflux so it just gives me peace of mind knowing his little belly is supported and hopefully it stops getting bigger xx
