Hi all,
I’ve been starting to look at nursery furniture and wondering what everyone’s thoughts are from experience.
I’ll have space for both but thinking, is a wardrobe really needed? and would a larger chest of drawers be better?
Does anyone find that a wardrobe is more of a pain as all the clothes can be folded?
Also, does anyone actually use the changing table that comes with most nursery chest of drawers? I feel like I would very rarely and it’s a waste of time.
Thanks All :)

We have a chest of drawers that has changing matt on top so it has nappies, vests and baby grows when he was tiny, socks hats bibs etc. We have a wardrobe but not with hanging rails it has shelves and 3 large basket draws which his clothes are in now hes bigger.

Thank you :) x

I have a changing table with the draws underneath and i wish I had just got a chest of draws and put the mat on top.
I enjoy hanging his clothes up in the closet more than folding them.

We have both and use both, although if I could only have one I’d have the chest of drawers! My little boy is turning 1 next week and we have used the changing table all day every day since he was born hahah

We used drawers but have never ever once used the changing bit on top for actually changing him. Now he’s a bit older we’ve started using the wardrobe for hanging his clothes up. If you could only have one deffo have the drawers x

We have both and definitely use both, his jumpers coats and dungarees are wardrobe with his sleep bags and pjs in the draws under the wardrobe then the rest in the chest of drawers, two chest of drawers would probably do the same job I suppose it’s the aesthetic of the room, if you don’t like the look of the wardrobe don’t bother with it ☺️ our boy is two and we still use the changing table (on top of the chest of draws )to get him dressed easier 😂

I'd get both if you have the space so that you can hang clothes when they're bigger and there's no need to replace everything after only a few years.

We have both and use both 😊

We went with just drawers as felt a wardrobe wouldn’t be as useful until much older. Our spare room has a hanging rail in so anything that does need hanging like coats etc can go there.

Both And have used the change table for every nappy change in our house and baby is 22 months !

We have both and use both, can’t imagine just having drawers as we don’t only store clothes in there but also nappies, medicines, stock of wipes etc. We did specifically m choose a set of drawers where the changing unit comes off once we don’t need it so it continues to be useful, and a wardrobe with plenty of storage options (moveable shelves, a drawer).

We have a big cabinet with shelves in and put his clothes in baskets. We also have space for wipes and nappies and all other baby supplies. I personally wouldn’t enjoy the extra time of having to hang things but could be something you get when they are older.
As for the changing table, we have a day bed in his room and we’ve always used that with a soft changing mat on it. It’s perfect especially when he started rolling and wiggling about. Once he was able to crawl we just put the mat on the floor and changed him.

Never had a wardrobe in our house for the kids, all their clothes have always been in drawers :)

We have chest of drawers and use it alot

Chest of drawers as then you can divide the items so you know what you have and can easily take what you need at the time

I always just used a dresser with my son. He’s now 4 and I’ve never hung his clothes up.

In the long term I think a wardrobe is more useful. We only got a chest of drawers (though also had a clothes rail) which is great when they are little but now I feel is taking up a lot of space and I find it hard to organize things in there. Ours had a changing table on the top which I used when he was a newborn but by 6 months, if not before, it no longer felt safe and I had to stop using it (we had a particularly fidgety and mobile baby though). Looking back I think a wardrobe that has hanging AND shelf space would have been more useful in the long term. And then if you needed extra space just a small chest of drawers.

We have both and used both

I love everyone’s different experiences! We never once used a changing table, but also have an almost four year old and two year old and have never had a use for a wardrobe either, and they love getting their own clothes out of their little drawers :)

What about something like this ? Changing tables won’t be used for as long as you expect them to be I paid £190 and stopped using it after 2 months because I was mainly changing her on the mat which I carried around x

We have a chest of drawers with a changing table on top. Currently it's full of changing stuff but will be used for clothes in future.
Our wardrobe is split so that one side is hanging space and the other is shelving, we also use baskets in the bottom for things like muslins and towels.

We bought an adult sized ikea wardrobe (those ones you can choose what goes in them/ door etc) we have 2 rails and 4 drawers and we haven’t filled it! We don’t have a chest of drawers but we have a cot top changer that we use every day

Both 👍🏼 we use drawers for nappies, bodies, leggings, socks etc and wardrobe for dresses, tops, sweaters etc

Honestly you only need a chest of drawers, I was going to get both and glad I didn’t get the wardrobe.

My daughter is 5 months and my son is 3. My son has costume type clothing hanging and a couple more formal clothes that we have just in case, but the majority of their stuff is just in drawers. Also no, I didn't buy a change table and I wouldn't have used it at all. Couch, bed or floor is just easier.

Thanks everyone, really helpful! ❤️

Neither of my children have wardrobes yet (3.5 boy and 4 month girl). I fold/roll all of their clothes and don't feel the need to hang anything

does your little girl wear dresses? if you don’t mind the question because I only got a wardrobe for coats and dresses x

We just bought adult furniture from IKEA and a changing table rather than special nursery furniture as it felt like a waste of money. We got a wardrobe, chest of drawers and changing table and I've been happy with it. Done the same with baby two and it feels good knowing that the only change we'll need to make any time soon is swapping the cot bed out for a single.
Edited to add that we bought some tension rods to use in the wardrobe for extra hanging space and some plastic drawers under that for clothes that are too big.
