So this is no shade bt I’ve been noticing that a lot of the gen Z and gen alpha are looking a little older/mature than their actual age. What do u think is causing younger folks to start looking so much older nowadays?

I’m a millenial & it seems like we are aging considerably well as a generation bt I think life was alot different for us when we entered young adulthood

Stress, fake food/hormones in food.

Avatar

yes! All of it! I was also listening to a podcast today that said that in general younger folks are experiencing loneliness. cuz they rely a lot on their connections being on social media so a lot of them are suffering from good quality relationships & connections. Loneliness can cause depression, So I can see how that can affect a whole generation

Avatar

All of the above but I would say cosmetic procedures too young is causing 20-25YO to look late 30s 😬

Avatar

Omg wtf is an alpha now

Avatar

growing up in my generation, plastic surgery was only what celebrities did cuz they were crazy & insecure lol & most of the time, they would be made fun of cuz the surgeries made them look cartoonish bt nowadays I’m noticing that cosmetic surgery is very easily affordable/accessible & it’s becoming acceptable. U don’t even need to be a celebrity to get work done. U can jus walk out ur door and see ur poor neighbor with big ole fish lips as she goes off to her 9 to 5 lol

Avatar

This is something I’ve noticed in cycles over the decades! Like way back in the day teens very much so looked like young adults before hitting actual young adulthood, then people started appearing younger than their ages, now it’s kinda reversing again lol

Avatar

😂😂😂😂😂😂 “maybe she broke” I don’t think poor ppl can afford cosmetic surgery while they struggling to keep housing or even find one.

Words matter!!

Avatar

But back on topic, I definitely think it’s the food mix with its now easier to have access to the same products as the celebrities and the younger generation are knowledgeable on how to maintain looking like “bad itches”

I ain’t mad at them. Plastic surgery yes they are going to far but to look your best at all time how can I be mad at them when I look homeless RN.

I’m a early gen z (apparently growing up I was baby millennial) lol in my lifetime we had 9/11, wars, covid, increase in mass/school shootings, closure of kid/centered stuff (preteen stores, etc) the push in social media, decline of in person relationships, community spaces, impossible beauty standards, fake food, etc etc of course we look old lmao
I’ve seen 16 year olds getting BBLs

Avatar

alpha is 2011-2024 I think. Gen beta starts this year

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

My kids look their ages 🤷🏼‍♀️

I feel like sometimes as millennials we might be a little delusional about how young we look but I also find that lip filler ages a lot of faces, generation doesn’t matter and more people seem to be getting it than I can recall in the past. I dunno. Dudes from my high school are look middle aged to me whenever I come across them on socials.

Avatar

omg I hope u told ur 25 yr old coworker that she is brainwashed lol and she doesn’t need fillers. She will regret it one day! 🤦🏾‍♀️

Avatar

Okay I’m not sure but I’ve been watching judge Judy episodes from the 90s and some of the people who are in their 30s look 40+ to me lol. Buttttt today is my birthday and I’m 34 and I think I look damn good!

Avatar

it’s the hair styles and clothing.

Avatar

I’m gen z and I’m always thinking dang the millennials are aging terribly 😂😂😂
But no I’m all seriousness I do think it’s a combination of too many procedures, too much make up, the crappy food, social media, stress etc.

Avatar

I 100% believe it is Botox and filler overload and/or heavy makeup/professional looking make up. I’m not going to lie, I do have some fine lines in my mid 30s so probably have a cheek saying people look old BUT I know so many people younger than me who look so much older. Also, some girls on the TV who are in their early 20s I’m like WHATTT!! They don’t look old in a wrinkly way, just very mature. X

Avatar

happy birthday! Welcome to 34 🤗 I turned 34 back in November. This is totally unrelated to this post bt I just checked ur profile and it says u have a 14yr old and 12yr old! So I just tried to picture myself with teenagers and it terrified me cuz I still feel like teenager myself. U must have looked like their older sis while u were raising them as babies X

Avatar

There was a trend of how old do I look on TikTok and people who were elder Gen z/millennial endings were getting absolutely roasted. But I noticed consistently that the women had, bleached their hair, lip filler and big lashes. That started a trend of people asking the internet to help them look younger, which seemed to lead to a lot of dissolved filler and opting into skin care treatments or routines instead of like tanners. Which is VERY aging. Even if you don’t tanning bed but self tan your face it just shows every little line and crease.

Avatar

I think it's Botox! I've had lip fillers (feel free to take a look at my pics on my profile and give an honest opinion/judgement cause I think it looks natural but maybe I'm delusional 😂)

I plan to get Botox when I start to get wrinkles, but I feel like a lot of women go to where it's affordable rather than where it's good - and it obviously shows 🤷🏻‍♀️

Avatar

I agree! I was considering Botox because my make up was just sitting in my lines. I spoke to my dentist who I was going to get Botox from and he gave me a skincare routine to follow and told me to stop using matte foundation. It has worked wonders. I will be 34 in April and not needed Botox yet but I won’t write it off completely. However, I have friends in their 20s that tell me if I don’t get it soon then it won’t work at all 😭😭

Avatar

thank you!!! That happens when we go out to stores or restaurants and I order a drink. It drives me nuts. My daughter’s friends make comments, the latest being “your mom is a baddie” 🤮🤮🤮
I do want another (crazy I know) but then I also think to myself I’m almost done and I’ll be able to lounge back and enjoy my 40s 🤣

Avatar

stress will age you quick! we are STRESSED

Avatar

I find the movement of eating raw meat, drinking raw milk, not using soap, not using spf and only showering once a week is not only making people look older but also like they have liver failure. Some of them are also eating raw chicken now.

Avatar

I think some of us millennials think looking good means we look young. I had a coworker who was offended cuz she said guess my age I said 38 she said what girl everyone thinks am 28. She does look so good like pretty face, big butt, small waist etc.. the package (natural). She was like I can’t believe you think I look 38.. I was so apologetic thinking omg I disrespected this lady to find out she is 38 😂😂
Meanwhile,Gen z’s thinks looking good means looking mature.

Avatar

I meaaaan it doesn’t help that they feel the stress of regret of not investing in property when they were in the womb 😂 😂 or so I’ve been told…

Avatar

thank you! Oh no I definitely had nothing 😂😭 if you see the before and after, my god!
I got fillers for over 2 years to get my desired fullness 🥲

Avatar

As a teen when I wore makeup it made me look older. Now that I am older I’m wearing makeup so I can look more youthful- glowing. The amount of teens these days on the street in their late teens w packed on makeup all looking mid-20’s is insane. My own 19yr old daughter looks older when she wears makeup, has lashes on etc so that could be the reason…

Avatar

I think it’s a mixture of all of it tbh and I’m speaking as a 23 yr old😂 thankfully I don’t have plastic surgery or any of that crap but I have noticed ever since I cut out a lot of crappy food my skin and everything has cleared up so much. However stress on the other hand will always be a battle for me

Avatar

20 year old soon to be momma here. I’ve been told I look older than my age since I was 15, but it was also around that time that I went through a lot of trauma.
Stress is insane for people my age and for me and the people I know, we were exposed to a lot of the world with very little protection or supervision so we sadly lost a lot of our innocence that keeps you not just young at heart but affects you physically.
Trauma, overexposure, and stress can age you twice as fast! I mean it’s obvious in soldiers when stress and trauma ages them, I think a similar situation is happening in a less obvious way to genZ and alpha so it’s harder to prevent against.

I wish my parents put blockers on my phone and monitored what I watched and who I talked to a little more, I wouldn’t need as much therapy and wouldn’t have been in as many dangerous and harmful situations as I was.

Avatar

Idk what it is but I have teenagers and this is facts. I don’t usually feel like I look that young and then I go up to the high school and I’m hit like wait?! They look GROWN. If I don’t have makeup and work clothes on I get mistaken for a student 😭😩 they tried to write me a late pass one time! I almost died of laughter.

Avatar

the internet is trolls though and asking “how old do I look” screams age me up 🤣🥴 it’s like a dog whistle!

Avatar

There is no more tween/teen culture. These kids skip the between stage and either look like 10 year olds or start dressing like they’re 25. It’s scary. I tell my students all the time they have their entire life to dress like an adult, be a kid while you can, growing up is a scam.

Avatar

literally people are bitchy! That’s why I rarely post here. I comment, but I know if you ask, people answer, and usually not from the best place.

Avatar

I remember that post. It turned into a debate over how people do their makeup. You’re beautiful and I’m glad you’re back. 🫶

Stress, unemployment rates through the roof especially here in Canada

Avatar

Millennials are notoriously young looking especially compared with older generations.

Avatar

It's those Flintstone vitamins they fed us as kids. Keeping us forever young 💪🏻

Avatar

Cosmetic surgery.
Getting Botox at 17 is wild. Getting fillers at 17 is even more irresponsible.

No one wants to happily embrace the years and the privilege of aging

Avatar

I can taste this comment 🥴🤣 like grape flavored chalk lmaooo

Avatar

@Nika they were not good 😂😂

Avatar

AT ALL! These kids have no idea 🤣

Avatar

I look younger than my age but more matured than my age as I get told that a lot. I think that’s becusss I had my babies young so I had to be matured

Avatar

Maybe they've accepted growing old gracefully rather than denial about the whole process...?
