Traveling in the 3d thrimester

Hi ladies. I will start this by saying I will contact the midwife on Monday for advice, I am just very concerned at the moment.
I will be 29 weeks pregnant on Tuesday and at high risk for preeclampsia ( I don’t have it, no symptoms, feeling very well overall this pregnancy, just high risk at developing)
My mom has cancer and for the past few days she is very unwell. She lives abroad (3h by airplane) and I am devastated. We recently found out and it’s been worst each week. I find myself crying and being upset every day. I tried being positive for the sake of my baby and toddler. I don’t want my sadness to affect the baby.
Do you think it will be possible to travel by airplane at this stage?

I was reading about it this morning - it's not recommended to fly after 36 weeks (or 32 weeks for a multiple pregnancy eg twins). But with your high risk of pre-eclampsia you'll need to think more carefully, and definitely look into what your travel insurance would cover if you were to need treatment or go into labour prematurely abroad.

I’m so sorry to hear about your mum. I think it depends when you are likely to be travelling, and whether the midwife thinks you are fit to fly. If you are classed as high risk they may say you cannot travel x

I am also classed as high risk for various things but like you am feeling well. When I spoke to my obstetrician about travelling, he told me to make sure I wore compression stockings on the airplane and walk around a lot.

Also, I called my travel insurer just to check I was fully covered if I went into labour early whilst I was abroad, so recommend you do that too. Plus my midwives signed a fit to fly certificate which some airlines and insurers want to see. I’m sorry to hear about your Mum and hope you can go and see her x

Hi! I’m high risk of preeclampsia too, I’ve been prescribed x2 75mg of aspirin every day to ensure my blood stays on the thinner side, could you maybe request this before travel? Sorry to hear about your mum 😞🥰

they did say will prescribe me aspirin only if I am developing preeclampsia . So far I’ve been diagnosed high risk by the sonographer at the hospital where I’ve had my scan

Thank you ladies for your replies, hopefully I can make it 🙏🏻

Hmmm yes they should have prescribed it beforehand, to prevent you from developing! I’d definitely chat with your midwife about it! Xx

Agree with as a preventative measure I’ve also been on asprin since about 12 weeks. Also, surely it’s the midwife or obstetrician who should be diagnosing you as high risk as opposed to the sonographer. See what they say tomorrow. Good luck!
