Calpol and teething baby

As an adult I usually try and avoid medication if I can help it. Obviously my baby can’t tell me how much pain she’s in but she cries and screams in her sleep and I feel like she’s in so much pain because of teething. Is it okay to give her calpol every night if needed until the teething situation improves? I’ve had to give it last night and tonight but I’m worried 😟

Our wee boy has cut a tooth a week for the past 3 weeks…it’s been terrible. I’ve been doing teething powder and a half dose of calpol at night time just so he can get some rest. Just watch as obviously calpol can make them constipated etc, so plenty hydration alongside it as well where possible

Yes just take their pain away if you can. There is no harm in it at this age they won't become resistant that fast and they aren't going to be drug addicts just because of some Calpol.

If they are in pain go for it.

Fyi I find the baby ibuprofen works better for teething

Anbesol liquid is a really good alternative. Also, ibuprofen tends to be better for teething than calpol as it's an anti-inflammatory 🙂

Teething last weeks even month sometime till one tooth comes through you can’t use calpol for more than 3 days (double check) so no you need to either find some gel or something that works or just let baby get on with it I know it sounds hard but I think it’s best way I don’t do medicine unless it’s needed. My daughter has 2 teeth and 2 cutting through atm. I distract her if she’s in pain and once every so often use teething gel she is totally fine and used to it now which is best way

I give paracetamol/ibuprofen as and when needed, as long as not doing too many doses, baby will be fine. Im also one that avoids unnecessary medication but will give whatever is needed to keep baby comfortable. Teething is only temporary, so isn’t really long term use and you don’t have to use all doses if not needed.

The using no more than 3 days is more about risks of certain illnesses not being seen by a dr. I promise you on discharge from hospital we would advise using regular paracetamol/ ibuprofen for the length of the illness. No need for baby to be in pain unnecessarily, especially when they can’t do anything to help themselves ☺️
For teething I’d also recommend dosing in the evening because that’s when pain is worse. If it’s not needed in the day, then don’t give it x
