@Miriam he’s two years old and his sleep is a disaster. He’s never slept independently I hold him for 10 hours all night in a mattress laying on the floor if I pull away from him he instantly wakes up crying. That goes for all sleeping even naps I have to hold him while he sleeps. Also his sleep schedule is a disaster this child is going to bed at like anytime from midnight to 3am then sleeping in crazy late. I need help idk what to do
The first thing I would work on for several weeks is getting both of you on a daily routine. Toddlers like to be in the know & a routine helps them know what to expect next & also will help you to enforce boundaries. Here is our routine for reference (you can change the times to fit your family just be aware of the wake windows) 8:30 am-Wake, Breakfast, & Get Dressed, Brush Teeth 9:30-1-Activies, Playdates, Park Time, Errands, ECT. (Snack@11) 1:00 Lunch & Story Time 2:00-4:00 Nap(5.5 hr wake window) 4:30 Snack, playtime w/Dad 6:30 Dinner 7:30 Bath, Brush Teeth, Book 8:45 Bed - Usually asleep by 9:30(5.5 hr wake window) During this time I would also work on establishing a bedtime routine if you don't already have one. Doesn't need to be anything crazy. We do Bath, PJ, Potty, Brush teeth, book & bed. Make sure the room is condusive to sleep, dark with a soft night light. We use a wake clock with a red night light. We live in a noisy area so we also use the wave sounds on the clock.
I find this website to be very informative about sleep so here is the link: https://huckleberrycare.com/blog/sleep-training-for-2-year-olds Once you get your daily and night routine sorted out & your LO is sleeping at more regular times then I would look at the gentle method or the chair method for sleep training. From what I have researched Cry it out should not be used and the Ferber Method is more difficult when they are 2. We used the Ferber Method with great success when she was 7 months. If you do decide to use the Ferber Method & have questions your more than welcome to message me 🫶🏻 Hope this helps you out!
It sort of refers to a broad range of methods to get your child to go to sleep independently. But it really depends on what you need/your child needs. What's going on that isn't working for you? Maybe this group can give you something more specific. Also, how old is your toddler?
