Baby class FAIL

How is everyone managing to go to baby classes at this point when their babies don’t have a strict napping schedule? We tried to go to our first class today but his nap was cut short and he spent the entire time screaming and crying as he was still tired!!! I can’t afford to spend a fortune on classes when he might either be asleep, or scream the house down if he’s due a nap!!!

The classes i go to is in the morning so my LO doesn't take a nap until we come back

We did a baby massage class yesterday, she napped for 20 minutes before in the car so I thought we were safe, nope screamed the place down for the last 5 minutes haha. Everyone was lovely but I wanted to run away😂

@Ashley I timed it so he’d sleep on the way there and banked on getting atleast 25/30 mins, but I stopped for fuel and he woke up after 10 mins, I knew it was going to be a disaster the minute we got there!

@Jess I think you’re spot on, he lasted 5 mins before he started screaming and even during those 5 mins I felt it was abit too much for him at 14 weeks, I know it’s probably good for his development, but I feel like it was too much too young!!

I've started taking mine (at 3 and a half months) and sometimes he's fully awake and other times he's asleep for half of it - I take that as an opportunity to just speak to other mums, or to gain inspiration for sensory play at home 🤣 but generally I'd probably advise being a little older before going now

I'm not bothering til mine is 7 months +. I tried with my first it was a nightmare. We got onto a schedule at 7 months when she dropped to 2 naps so I started then, and it was way easier to go to lots when she turned 1 and went to 1 nap. She's 3 now and very advanced for her age so I'm not going to rush it.

We've been to a couple, one before Christmas and one yesterday.. The first one she just slept the entire time, and was a bit grumpy at the end. This second time she loved it and interacted with other babies. I let her sleep until an hour before the class, huge boob feed then additional top up of expressed milk for extra energy and we go as soon as she's done. It lasted us the whole class, just got a bit over tired at the end but by that point I was already putting her in the car. She was catching up on sleep for the rest of the day but I took her out for a long walk in her sling and that sends her to sleep pretty well

Iv managed to find free ones 😂 there so expensive and alot of the sensory/massage stuff you can do at home. Just do what is best for yoou xx

@Naomi same our local church does them for a voluntary contribution of £2 per session, they even serve free tea and cake! So lovely

We’ve been a couple of times. Sometimes she’s awake and loves it, other times she has napped for the first half or fed during. I see it as a win regardless, we both get out and if she’s awake she enjoys it. I try and time so she has a bottle before we leave the house as then she’s usually awake and settled, doesn’t always work that way… but what ever always does with a little one 😊

I'm only doing the free or almost free baby groups for now, as they're more for me than for him. This way he can nap if he wants to

I haven’t been to a class yet, I think between this and my anxiety of the awkwardness I just haven’t been able to bring myself to go 😩 I feel like my boy is missing out but at the same time he doesn’t know what he is missing yet and I’m doing a lot of things with him at home x

I’ve been going since my LG was 3 weeks old! At first it was hard to time it so she would be in her next wake window but now I time it so she naps on the way there (takes 30 mins) and she isn’t due a feed as soon as we get there! I’ve managed to do it so I feed her at the end of the class and also change her nappy when wee get there

They can sleep through the class. Which seems pointless but evidence shows they take in 70% of their surroundings while sleeping so will still benefit. But we always try to get him to nap before hand after a wake window that wasn’t quite as long, even if it’s a little short nap so that he’s mostly awake for them. But it’s a juggle! His nap routine isn’t strict either so gives us a little bit of flexibility. But we do try to stick to wake windows being no longer than 2 hours as he gets really tired around that mark xx

@Jami I’m not paying £15 a session for my baby to sleep through the class and for me to sing along on my own like a melon😂😂😂 wether he takes in 70% of the class subconsciously or not I’d rather him be awake ahahah

Classes are good for mums too to speak with other mums and make new friends and get out of the house. Try and start his day slightly earlier or later on days you plan to go so that his nap shouldn’t be interrupted so much if the times of then fall when he sleeps. Also not all classes cost there’s plenty of free ones you can go to. Or just don’t go to any. Was only trying to give you info to help.
