Cry it Out Method

Hello, I am using the cry it out method to sleep train my baby (no negative comments please). If you have used this method please tell me how long it took for your baby to settle themselves and also sleep through the night. It’s my last resort for sleep training my daughter and it’s been very hard to choose this method.

Took my daughter 2 weeks and sometimes I’m still not successful especially with day naps but she is sleeping through the night now. Don’t listen to the negativity they don’t know your bubba x

@Sian Was she crying for a long period of time when putting her to bed the entire 2 weeks? I am worried about naps because she is soo dependent on me for them

I did it with my first and honestly it almost killed me. Not doing it almost did too, literally, so.. yeah. Not sure what I'll do with my 7 month old now. So with my first we did it to where we were still in the room and occasionally patting her but not picking her up. She was 17 months btw and she had been up every 30 to 60 minutes all night every night for 8 months. I tried everything first even bed sharing and she hated it. She'd scream and scream putting her in bed with me. I so desperately wanted something else to work. She picked up the night sleeping really quickly but she was just up early like 5a screaming and I'd go to get her bc I couldn't stand it. She'd be down a long time before that like 9 to 10 hours. What never caught on was the naps. They were awful, like 10 min, she was a mess, I was a mess... so we resumed contact napping. It made me feel less guilty for the night sleep. And it didn't affect the success of her night sleep training.

I will say though that what a lot of people don't tell you is a lot of babies need to be continuously sleep trained all over again like the next milestone etc. Her good sleep only lasted a few months then it was over. It wasn't as bad as before so we just dealt with it, we couldn't go through it again.

We let her go for 5-10 minutes then check in and hold/rock. We sleep trained around 4-5 months. It really isn’t effective if your baby is >7 months- apparently there is a window to help sleep train and if you miss it you miss it… very important to let them self soothe as long as they are clean, dry, fed, etc. it is safe

When’s the best age to do this

Generally, it's 3-4 days. Have some Ben & Jerry's on hand. It is hard to get through it, but really, it would be worse to give up halfway through and put all of you through it for nothing. Wishing you all sweet dreams very soon.

Took our baby 3-4 days. First day he cried a lot, 30 min and we checked every 5-10 min. Everyday that passed he cried less and less, by the 5 day he laid to sleep without a peep. From the first night he slept trough the night 👍 we slept trained at 6 months but it lasted until we transitioned him to a bed at 2 years. We are back at at least one waking up anytime between 3-5 am
