Sleep training.

Can somebody help me or guide me down the correct path please. My 6.5 month old has never been a good sleeper but I feel he’s getting to the stage now where he should be able to self settle. Naps are so short unless we are out and about and he is resisting naps so much! We put him in his next2me for bedtime at around 7 after bath, bottle and a book and he goes to sleep with a little help from us. then he wakes about 2/3 times before 10pm when we give him a top up bottle(which i would like to stop). after this he sleeps sometimes well until 2/3 then its all downhill from there. we wanted to try the Ferber method so tried it tonight checking in on him after 3 mins then 5 and then 5 onwards from there on as i couldn't cope with leaving him any longer. This has gone on for about 40 minutes. At what point is too long as he doesn't seem to be falling asleep? Do we pick him up eventually or persevere? HELP 😢😢

Hey, not sure if it’s much help but my boy (now 7 months) was the same but we’ve recently moved him to his own room in a bigger cot and he now sleeps on his belly and goes to bed at 7, wakes for a bottle 9:30/10:30 and then manages about 5 hours on average afterwards. I’ve noticed he really struggles to sleep on his back at all now, even for naps. I know about safe sleep and tummy sleeping isn’t recommended so it’s up to you but thought I’d mention just in case as his sleep has always been so bad the change was a real surprise to us x

He sleeps so much better on his side but then when he rolls onto his back that’s when he tends to wake. He did 2 hours on his front the other night but then wakes up like oh god I’m on my front 😅😅 @Lucy

Hey, we're in the same position. We tried the Ferber method last week. I think set a time limit you're comfortable with and ultimately go off your gut and your baby. At around the 45 mins mark we said we can't let it go on any longer than an hour. At 58 mins she eventually fell asleep. We found she got so upset when I did the check in's, so Dad did them and she settled much quicker. We ended up going for 10 mins intervals as the shorter ones were making her more unsettled. The next night she only cried for 4 mins, night after 10 mins before falling asleep. Unfortunately she then got sick so we parked the sleep training. We did see a big improvement in her sleep so will try again when she's better. Hang in there!

I was the same with my LO who’s now 7.5 months and sleeping 7pm-5.30/6am ish … we transferred him to his own room and big cot .. so out of his next to me! We did this at 5 months ish as he was still waking 4+ times a night .. he likes to roll around so I think the more space does him well x
