Bedtime question

Sometime before my son turned 2 I’ve been having such a struggle during bedtime. He naps perfectly fine and will fall asleep with no trouble. At bedtime it’s a nightmare..he is put in his crib, we read books and now he will just cry and scream once I turn off the light (he sleeps in the room with my husband and I) we have a nightlight. Before his second birthday I’d place him in his crib and he’d lay down and fall asleep no problem. Does anyone have any advice? I’d really appreciate it!
