Induction process at RPH

Could anyone explain the induction process to me for RPH? Is it as they say? Positive experiences?

First time mum, who is very nervous!

I was induced at RPH in july 2024, I had a positive experience mostly! They will ring you on the date that has been scheduled when there is an opening for you to come in, for me it was a big faff as it was very busy the day I was scheduled to be induced, so I rang up myself and asked and they just explained it’s very busy and to keep my phone on me. I then got a call an hour later saying that they won’t be able to get me in today, I could wait and see or I could go to lancaster hospital (I decided to just wait as lancaster is a bit far). I then was told to come in for a monitoring as I was being induced for reduced movements so they just wanted to have a check of me before sending me home again to wait. I went in and as I was walking out to leave they got a call saying there is a space available for me so I then went up to the maternity ward luckily had brought my things! As it was really busy I was there at 3pm, I didn’t get gel to prep the cervix until 10pm😩

I was well looked after. The midwives and students were amazing with me, during labour and on postnatal ward. I was also a first time mum. But I was fine.
I did however have to wait for my waters to be broken for a few days due to emergencies taking my place in delivery suit. Apart from that it was fine x

I stupidly didn’t sleep so I was knackered at the end of birth but basically after the gel they put inside your vagina on your cervix (it doesn’t hurt getting it, just uncomfortable) I started contracting anyway as I was already 2-3cm so I didn’t need much to put me into labour. Then went up to the birthing suite after some labouring and gave birth about 8 hours later. I did need to have an episiotomy but it’s because I just didn’t have the energy to push all by myself, it was a really positive experience more because the midwives were LOVELY. I had a student midwife in the room (you can opt out if you ask them) but she was called Orla and she was amazing, stayed even after her shift ended to be with me and birth my son even tho the other midwife left. And then the aftercare was lovely the midwife’s were all so helpful and caring, had a few laughs too. Didn’t have one bad staff member in my experience x

The parking is shocking just to let you know, you probably do if you have been having appointments but I’d get someone to drop you off first and then find somewhere to park and then come find you because it’s hard work to get a parking space sometimes x

seems like it’s pot luck! I am actually due to get a call today, didn’t sleep last night due to thinking about it so I hope they do call me soon 😫 apart from the start the overall experience doesn’t seem too bad so pleaseeee cross everything for me that mine goes like that too 😂🤞 xx

I’ve heard lots about having to wait for waters to be broken, are you in pain at this point? This is what I’m panicking about, being stuck in pain for days!! X

Aw hopefully they’re not as busy today and you get in easily, it’ll be soon!! How exciting 🥰 You’ll be absolutely fine! The nerves are completely understandable and the midwives will be there for you every step of the way. When you’re on the maternity ward before you’re in active labour don’t be afraid about pushing the button to ask for any pain meds or anything else, I pressed it every 10 mins I swear 😂😂 No matter what happens, when you have your beautiful baby in your arms everything you went through disappears 🥹💗

So with me they put the gel in and I started a couple hours later, I was 3cm. They said they will call delivery and let them know they’ll be sending me up to get waters broken. But then a few emergencies came in and I was out back to the queue as I was fine eg no pain. So I stayed on wards for 3 ish days.
I started contracting straight away ( but this was minor ) I had no idea I was contracting until midwife looked on the monitor. They offer you pain relief all the time but I didn’t need any. Everyone’s pain is different I guess but I was totally fine. Like I said they will give you pain relief xx

I didn't get my call till about 1pm but was asked to go in pretty much straight away. I couldn't fault the midwives and students at all whilst I was there, I was in active labour for 4 days after being induced and every single midwife each day was amazing.

Good luck ❤️
