There is a 4 month sleep regression, maybe have a look at that. It could give you some explanation. But yes I must agree with Catherine above, sleep is a tough thing. We have been struggling too and it seems we must accept its changing all the time and try our best to make it easy for both the little ones and ourselves.
Thanks ladies I’m still pumping in the day and breast feeding through the night xxx
There is a sleep regression at 4 months whereby baby’s sleep patterns start to mature and become more like an adult’s. Newborns have only two sleep cycles but around 3/4 months they start having four. Because this is new to them, they become fully awake between each cycle and need help getting back to sleep. (Google the 4 month sleep regression which will explain it far better than I have!) The likelihood is your baby is not necessarily more hungry, just relying on breastfeeding to help them get back to sleep. So no need to use formula if you don’t want to (although absolutely fine if you do, of course!) https://www.emmapickettbreastfeedingsupport.com/blog/low-milk-supply-101
Thanks so much xx
I also read somewhere about sleep regression at 4 months. If you're worried about not fully satisfied with feedings than I recommend trying paced feeding. You can find videos on YouTube. Helped us.
Baby sleep goes up and down, with growth spurts and developmental leaps etc. If shes been feeding more frequently during the night, she’s likely telling your body to make more milk (which is what she’s supposed to do). Be careful stopping breastfeeding so abruptly like that as you can very quickly develop mastitis!
