Is it unprofessional for people to not reply to a calling in sick email?

Started a new job recently but I caught my sons sickness bug so sent an email to two different people as I haven’t been assigned a manager yet.
I don’t hear a response by 12 so was pretty anxious I messaged someone I know from the office to inform them and they said yeah they said you’re off sick today. There is no single phone line to call so have been told to email or send a message on the office dashboard

Is this normal? I feel it’s really unprofessional to not respond to a message like this but I also don’t want to seem like a dick and be mad about it. None of my previous jobs were office jobs.

Yeah we have a policy at work that you must call between 8-8.30 if you are sick, lots of places do. Sending sympathy though cos kids constantly being ill makes work really stressful!

what counts? I wasn’t given a number to call and was told to just send a message over

I sent an email in on Sunday and then two more messages on the work forum at 8. I’m embarrassed now thinking I did it wrong lol

well it’s on them really to ensure new starters are aware of procedures, it’s certainly something I make part of my inductions.
Maybe ask someone when you go back what the protocol is x

I think it's pretty rude. If they haven't given you a number, they should acknowledge your email for sure. It doesn't have to be gushy, just a 'thank you for letting us know, hopefully we'll see you tomorrow.' I'd be inclined to ask for a reply on my email next time you have to send one. You can just say 'please can you kindly confirm that you have read this email'

In both workplaces I’ve worked at, emails or text messages do not count if you are ringing in sick, only a phone conversation with a superior does, so an email or text would still count as unauthorised absence. Surely you can google your workplace and find a contact number?

it’s a really huge company. I was told my mangers name but not given any numbers. The online number is for the office in a diff city. Il ask about it tomorrow

I think it's unprofessional to not respond but you have done all you can do.

In my current job, I can text in. In my previous jobs I had to call as soon as I knew I wasn't going to be in. I think it's quite ridiculous that people have to call instead of send a message. I hope you feel better soon, for diarrhea and vomiting you usually have to be off for 48 hours after the last incidence.

I actually think this can be pretty normal for office jobs especially when you don’t have a dedicated manager. I used to always try call my manager to explain when I was sick but she never answered the phone nor called back but she responded to text messages only it seems which is fine by me it’s how I call in sick

omg i’d be scared they hadn’t seen it & they think i’ve gone AWOL if they didn’t reply!!🫣 i think that’s my anxiety talking though lol x

I send and email in Thursday to four different people my LG had a bug too
To HR and two mangers
No one replied to me 😂😂😂😂😂
Well someone confirmed that they know you for sick
So nothing to worry about

my work you have to call, but since being pregnant i’ve been told an email to my boss is okay as they know sleep is rough and would rather me send it when the sickness starts and get rest right away instead of being up at the crack of dawn to call and not managing to rest after… when i’ve called, they don’t always answer so just left voicemail and heard nothing back so i’d say you’re fine xx
