Help please! 💔😭

I sleep trained my baby at 9 months, checking in on him every 5, then 10, then 15 minutes, etc., til he was asleep. We had a rough 2 weeks then he was sleeping great. This week (he turns 1 on Monday but was born 6 weeks early), he's waking up at 3:30-4:30am, and now waking at night as well. His cries are breaking my heart and I don't know what to do. I'm starting to wish we never sleep trained, but none of us were sleeping well co-sleeping (safe 7). What do I do?

When is your baby's last feed of milk for the day?

@Amanda he nurses right before bed

My son is about to turn 11 months and was doing the same wake ups. Our sleep consultant had me feed him earlier in the evening to separate feeding from sleep. I used to feed him 45 mins before bed and now I feed him 2 hours before and he has now been going all night without asking for a feed. Could be worth a try!

@Amanda oh wow, okay. Thanks. Is he formula fed or breastfed? If you don't mind me asking. And was he sleeping through the night then started the wake ups, or were they always happening?

He is breastfed. He has always been a horrible sleeper, until we started with our consultant in December. He was waking up every hour, and then had an awake period of several hours in the middle of the night. Once we started with the consultant, he started having amazing sleeps after about 4 days (8+ hrs of uninterrupted sleep), and then it seemed to regress and he was repeatedly waking up at 11 pm, and was then awake and angry from 3 a.m. onwards. We moved the feed earlier in the evening and it has really helped. I honestly thought it would do the opposite, but here we are. But I feel like every child is so different, so it may or may not work for you.

Hi, Feeding advice is considered medical advice, so whether or not a baby should drop night feedings should be directed to the gp. A sleep consultant can never make this decision, but can help the parent to identify if is a waking due to the hunger or comfort. At this age, the baby should be able to sleep all night without eating. But that means he should have a good schedule, no props etc. Hope it helps ☺️
