Are we really ironing our kids school uniform?

Maybe more UK q but I just saw a comment saying Sunday night is like 'iron uniform' night and I am like wait, in this day and age are we really ironing kids uniform? For like under 10s? I don't even iron my own poxy clothes. Lol a parenting expectation I clearly was not ready for 😂

I usually use the dryer but my partner typically irons all our little girls clothes 🤣

My sons uniforms don't crease, thank goodness they are mostly polyester i do put them on low heat in the dyer and hang up so never had to.

Uniforms are the only thing that does get ironed

Only the tops.

@Tee not ironing does not equal creased.

Eta can you not interpret the laughing emoji as me not taking this poll to seriously. Honestly can't post a thing here without some underhanded judgement.

I don’t have a school aged child but I can say with some certainty I won’t be ironing her uniform when it comes to it 😂 the iron literally comes out on very special occasions only.

Spoke to my my soul. My son is 10, I have never ironed his uniform. A good shake when they come out the machine is good enough for me. But at his age I was ironing my own uniform (and even my underwear) as that’s how I was brought up. My mum was and still is very strict about ironing on a Sunday. And very much curses me occasionally about not ironing anything and how she’s embarrassed to walk down the street with me 🙄. My clothes aren’t creased at all.

Avatar

If they were creased and the dryer hadn't helped, then definitely.

Avatar

My kids aren't at school yet but I would definitely iron their uniforms if they looked creased. I rarely iron but I do if something looks creased (most shirts or dresses)

I iron my daughters nursery uniform and she’s not even 2 yet 😂

I steam all of her clothing because why wouldn’t I want her to be dressed well and clean? I hate seeing wrinkles in clothing. Maybe it’s the Caribbean in me 🥲

same here

Mine don’t have a uniform but I did iron mine when we went to catholic school as children

I iron everything and anything that can be ironed 😄 It’s relaxing for me and helps a lot with storage.

Avatar

I always iron my kids uniform I won’t send them out in creased clothes. I even iron their normal clothes

Avatar

I don't think I even own an iron...

See I was surprised by this after coming to the UK because in Canada, kids of all ages and education level just wear everyday clothes to school. Definitely was a culture shock to me as someone who wore jeans and cowboy boots to high school 😆

When I was working full time and taking care of all the housework I did not iron my girls uniform. I used to “bang it out” when it came out of the wash and dried it neatly. Now on mat leave and I started ironing her uniform and now I can’t not iron 😀

Avatar

I couldn't even imagine not ironing my kids cloths, they have a fresh uniform daily that's ironed, same as myself I iron all my tops, I like us to all look presentable at all times.

Avatar

My child looks perfectly presentable without ironed clothes. They're not wrinkly at all. I don't have time to iron. Don't see the point either as none of our clothes are wrinkly.

Avatar

your other clothing never wrinkles?

Avatar

Nope, we tumble dry most of them. We both work from home so there is no work clothes. And my youngest goes to preschool...I mean she could walk in wearing the most ironed clothes ever and in 5 minutes she would be a mess so what's the point. And my oldest's uniform is just black trousers and a red top. Not wrinkly.

When she’s in school I know my husband will iron her clothes, because that’s how he is. We always have the board set up anyway because he wears suits to work so it won’t be an inconvenience and I’m sure tiny clothes won’t even take half the time!

Avatar

I'm happy to say I'm a tumble dryer mom 😂

Avatar

I’m an iron mum bc I don’t have a tumble dryer, but I’d so be one if I had one.

Avatar

Nope. Lots of it is “non iron” anyway. Tumble dryer, shake and hang up. 👌🏼 Maybe a go with the steamer if needed, and I’m feeling fancy.

They all end the school day looking pretty dishevelled, and especially if a shirts going to be worn under a jumper most of the day anyway, seems like a waste of my time. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Avatar

Nope, I don’t iron any other clothes so I’m not digging the iron and ironing board out just for the sake of her uniform. It’s polo shirt and cardigan anyway so it doesn’t really warrant ironing.

Avatar

Id ion shirts 100% anything else is debatable lol

Avatar

Yep Sunday night was iron night, I remember that for my first in primary and high school to 😂😂

Avatar

I hang dry clothes in the sun so they aren't creased anyway. If I do use the dryer because it's raining, just pull it out right when the cycle ends and the clothes are still hot and hang them, which will also avoid creasing 🙂

Steamers are quick and easier
