It took probably 2-3 weeks for my guy to sleep somewhat in the bassinet and even then he still ended up on me half way through the night. Swaddles (for us the love to dream ones worked great) helped and heating up the bassinet with a heated pad (removing it before placing baby down) helped. Otherwise, I just stayed by him and supported him by placing my hand on his chest until he settled.
My little girl was the same for the first two weeks, it is very normal for babies to not want to be put down as it’s a survival instinct but omg it is so tiring as you don’t sleep either. However she will now sleep in her cot from 10:00-3:00 wake for a feed and then sleeps 4:00-7/8:00 all in her next to me after some perseverance. It does get easier have you tried swaddling her? My little girl loved it the first few weeks now not so much as he learning to self soothe but those first few week the love to dream swaddles were a life saver. Xx
Swaddle, white noise, put used breast pads under the bassinet sheet so the bed smells like your milk, put a hot water bottle in the bed to warm it before you lay baby down
We bought an electric heating pad and put it in the bassinet. Then before putting baby in we take it out and her bed feels warm like being held. Makes the transfer so much easier.
I have my baby sleep in hers for naps throughout the day and it got her used to sleeping in it. She’s also a week! I wanna hold her all the time, but I roll around in my sleep (not rn bc I’m healing from the C-section but usually) and I’d rather her be safe. Best of luck to you! You’re doing great 🩷
For the first 12 weeks they don't know you are separate people so it's completely normal. Enjoy it :)
I’m pretty sure from what I remember my boy basically slept in my arms most of the night. I fell asleep whilst he was feeding and he fell asleep whilst on feeding. Dangerous I know, so don’t come at me. But It happened. He was also only comfortable sleeping in an arms up swaddle instead of arms down. Which was a game changer when he realised. Try different swaddles, different lighting. The temperature of the room too.
