Hi all, I am 43 with low amh and just had second failed IUI. I am now thinking of moving on to IVF but I am wondering how did you weigh up whether to pay for one round at a time vs a package of 3 cycles? Obviously it is very expensive but I want to give myself the best chance at success so unsure what to do. Any advice would be appreciated!

We had our first round of IVF on the NHS and it completely failed, we didn’t manage to make a single embryo. Going forward we decided to do ICSI instead and were paying privately. Due to our previous experience we opted to pay for a package for multiple rounds incase something else cropped up. Luckily we only needed the first cycle and I’m currently pregnant with our miracle baby.
I think knowing we weren’t putting all of our hope into one cycle also helped take the pressure off abit. I think it depends entirely on your situation and what is manageable financially. Good luck with everything!
Thank you for that! So what happens with the rest of the cycles you paid for in the package? My worry is if 1st round is successful and then you can’t get a refund on the others

We didn’t get any money back. Some companies might be different but we used access fertility and if any cycle results in a pregnancy then you can’t use the further cycles and can’t get a refund unfortunately x
That’s crazy that you can’t use the rest of the cycles you’ve paid for! It does anger me how much money they are taking from people x

Hi, I went with a package with care fertility. I weight up my chances vs the cost. I ended being lucky and it worked on second frozen transfer. So although I only used one egg retrieval cycle, I needed multiple transfers (around £2K a transfer). That cost was included in my package, so I paid a little more than needed but I could have easily broke-even or saved had I needed more transfers or an extra egg retrieval.
I believe they can also offer financing packages so not all up front cost.
Best of luck
(Also didn’t get any back due to my age)

Fortunately, my consult with the IVF doctor helped me. He was confident I didn’t need more than one cycle. Plus, I didn’t like that the other cycle wasn’t guaranteed if the first worked. It saved me so much money. That said peace of mind is important with an investment like this…and reducing stress is important to IVF success…my partner and I were willing to spend the money for additional cycles if necessary, so that made it easy to do the one cycle package too.
