I went straight for baby led weaning so she hardly has any purees. She mainly has whatever I’m having just cut slightly different. We are about 3 weeks in and she’s had loads of veg (steamed and cut correctly) chicken, steak, weetabix, toast, melty sticks etc
Same as what Lauryn said. We have always given what we have. We just make sure not to add salt into our cooking and cut it correctly for her. So when we had spaghetti bolognese the other day she had the main mince mix we have and I just broke her spag pasta down instead of having the long spaghetti pasta. She loved it! Her first proper meal was a roast dinner
@Steph she doesn't necessarily have to give her baby purees if she doesn't want to. Some people prefer to do BLW.
It's best to start them with veg & some sort of allergen, like eggs or strawberries. Then just go from there really with either BLW or purees, whichever one you choose.
Ask your health vistors if there's any free classes on BLW as loads of areas have them I believe so will give you an idea!
Download the app “solid starts”. It will help you with first foods ideas and teach you how to serve every food depending on baby’s age
Thank you mamas xxx
Our pediatrician recommended one food for 5 days to make sure he has no allergies. We’ve been doing purées mostly. He doesn’t eat much of it lol most of it ends up on his face, hands, floor. He also recommended veggies first then fruits so they don’t only want the sweet stuff.

My baby hated purees so her first foods were things like avocado, salmon, applesauce, and she absolutely loved to suck on steak and lamb
We did baby led weaning and I aimed for 100 foods before 1… so trying 100 different foods before my children turned 1 year old. There’s no need to do allergens first or 1 food for 5 days- that’s outdated advice. Just feed them a little of anything and everything- except for honey and avoid choking hazards. Solid starts is a great resource
@Rachel I never stated she had too? I just told her what I did as she asked for ideas…. 💁♀️
@Steph her post said she had no ideas what to feed him & you answered with pureed veg, so it made it sound like you were telling her what to give him 🤷♀️

@Rachel your comment to me makes no sense though and no comment was even necessary. Puréed veg is an idea…. I never stated that’s categorically the ONLY idea or what she must do… I even suggested weaning pages on Insta - this covers puréed, BLW and Combi. Even Joe Wicks’ book covers BLW which was another suggestion 😆 If someone asked for an idea, I should certainly feel able to give one idea, without some other mum/ stranger making a jibe because I haven’t covered every idea possible or they simply don’t like my idea? 🙃 Let’s leave it at that.
Depend if you want to do blw. My babies almost 10 months and we're still enjoying a mix of blw and puree. If blw soft fruit or veg. Banana, brocoli, toast.
Puréed veg - we started with carrots and broccoli. Then mixing with parsnips and butternut squash. I bought little pots and prepped in bulk. Then after a couple of weeks moved onto mixing veg with mash… Instagram have some great weaning pages and my favourite book was Wean in 15 by Joe Wicks. Hope this helps xx
