My baby is 4 weeks old tomorrow and since he was about 1.5 weeks old he’s been having really bad trouble going for a poo, he strains and cries all throughout the day and has gone from having 3-4 a day to 1 every 2 days, he came up in a rash and has really dry skin on his face, he also farts a lot and cries in pain while farting. His doctor prescribed him aptamil pepti 1 which we started Tuesday last week due to suspected cows milk allergy but since starting it he seems to be worse, his rash has spread all over his torso and back and face, he’s crying more than ever and he’s still struggling to poo, farting loads and having green firm poos, he’s also started spitting up during and after every feed which he didn’t before and I just feel like this formula is making him so much worse, does anyone have any advice or experience like this?

Aw girl I hear your pain! At least your doctor tried to help. My doctor was more upset with us not breast feeding!
We had the same thing but without the rash just real bad constipation, we found that Aptamil sensitive works wonders for our girl! She farts heaps but hard poos are a thing of the past!
If you feel it’s an allergy to cows milk, try goats! I’ve been told that that is also very good!

My son was allergic to milk, peanut and egg. He also has severe eczema.
Ask your pediatrician or find an immunologist and have them test your baby for allergens thru a blood draw and skin test. They’ll be able to see exactly what they’re allergic to and how allergic they are to each allergen. It’ll help a lot!

thank you, been thinking of asking the doctor again to see if he thinks this milk is making him worse but it’s only been less than a week I just hate seeing him in pain and screaming all the time, I’m just worried he’s allergic to this new milk as well

how do I go about getting him allergy tested?

The pepti still contains milk proteins so could be that this just isn’t the correct milk for him but they do say give it at least 2 weeks because his stomach etc needs time to heal. Nutramigen and sma althera also contain milk proteins but they are different to pepti 1 and then there are ones like neocate & sma alfamino which are amino acid based and contain no cows milk proteins at all. These are usually a last resort and some gp’s will refer you to the dietitian first before giving those.
Allergy testing is difficult in the uk unless you go private. The nhs do not do them willingly unfortunately, they prefer the trial and error method which sucks when you can see your baby suffering
