@Gem he's on Omeprazole as well so do I still need to use that much? Have u ever tried spoon feeding it to ur baby? How does that work? How does that help with reflux
So my two were very different. 1st had silent Reflux and was on ranatidine (can’t get now so omeprazole is used) and carobel as above. She liked it thicker and kept milk down. My 17mo reacted to carobel so had omeprazole and magic mix instead. Both carobel and magic mix make the milk thicker to relive reflux. Never tried spoon feeding. Both of mine were in this until 1yo x
@Willow please could you update me how you get on , my baby is on omeprazole and gaviscon but wanted to switch the gaviscon for carobel but just terrified 🥺
@Katelyn I will let u no if I ever figure it out the instructions r not clear😂 x
@Gem OK I will start using 4 scoops for 8oz bottles and see how that goes. Now it's thicker will he drink less?
@Willow it’s total trial and error so don’t worry about the instructions as it’s what works for you. What milk are you on? Hmm could possibly drink less yes x
What age is your little one? Sorry just checking because both my son's have been on this. And your prescription seems like a lot? My little one takes 8oz bottles... He is 5months. His prescription is 1 scoop per 180ml. So we have been doing 1... It should probably be 1½ at 8oz but honestly we find the 1 scoop enough. He just gets so frustrated and angry trying to get it out the teet at 1½. We went up a Teet size which helped a bit. I agree what's on the box is nothing like what my little one is prescribed.... But 1 scoop to 30ml compared to 1 scoop to 180ml seems a huge difference. I would check the children's BNF for prescriptions
@Gem he's on neocate he has cmpa as well
We’ve been on carobel for around 5/6days now my little one is doing okay on it happier than she was on the anti reflux milk. But it really constipates her! Shes having 1 scoop per 5oz. (her reflux isn’t as bad as it used to be and I’m trying to see how’s she’s doing with thinner milk now.) we just add it in once milk is ready and let it sit for a few mins x
@Alanna he's 5 months old this is why I am so confused 1 scoop her 30ml seems excessive x
@Willow same as both of mine. Neocate is very thin so will defs help. Mine drank less to start with but then once comfortable soon upped it! I’d try a couple of scoops to start with and see how you go so then can always increase or decrease as needed x
Carobel is trial and error for a lot of people. My little girl couldn’t take her Neocate very thick so we played about with the scoops and amounts but she never agreed with it at all. Just be careful as some CMPA babies react to carobel for some reason x
@Julia thank u that's good to know what kind of symptoms do they get if they have a reaction my baby has a non IgE allergy to milk if that helps
@Willow my first was fine with carobel-second reacted! Both non ige to milk and soya. Carobel is made from Carob which is similar to soya so some react. As I said one of mine did and one didn’t even though both allergic to soya x

I only put half a scoop for 4oz as it makes it so thick. I would say 1 scoop is enough for 8oz
@Willow Her eczema flared up after a couple of days and she was still being really sicky and just really uncomfortable again. She’s also non IgE so it took a couple of days to notice the symptoms creeping back. As soon as I stopped it her symptoms went away within a couple of days and everything went back to normal in about 2 weeks x
@Lizzie see we were put it on it because gaviscon was causing constipation I thought carobel would do the same but I guess I'll see x
The hospital told me it’s 1 scoop every 3oz
The packaging says 1 scoop for every 60mls/2oz if you want it to be thick. 1/2 a scoop for every 90mls/3oz if you want it to be thinner. We did trial and error with ours and found it being thicker (but not too thick) helped with his reflux. He currently has 2.5 scoops in 7oz which works well for the reflux but he could have 3.5 based off of the instructions. Do bear in mind that it can take a few minutes to thicken up and it can also cause constipation so you may need a stool softener to help with that.
I'm using 1 scoop in an 8 Oz bottle
@Blaithín I tried that and it's having no affect on his reflux despite also being on Omeprazole as well he's still choking on his reflux till he's read in the face honestly I don't think I've ever seen it so bad. I tried upping tye carobel by 0.5 a spoon n then he flat out refused to drink it, I tried to switch to a bigger teat and he still refused. I'm at a loss and I hate seeing him in pain and refusing feeds😭
We use 1 scoop for a 4oz bottle. It helps her not to be sick after feeds cause the milk is thick it stays down better. But she still gets pain from reflux/stomach acid and cries and squirms after feeds
I have been using 1 and a half scoops in 5oz bottle. I just did trail and error until I found what worked for her! I also found that mixing the Carobel in the water first and then adding the formula after saves it clumping in the bottle x
I couldn’t work it out either so I just switched to anti-reflux milk which already has carobel in it. It worked and was so much easier
@Becky he has cmpa so we don't have this option 😭
@Willow have you tried carobel yet? x
@Katelyn yh he is absolutely not a fan he won't drink more then a single scoop in his milk, I have tried gradually increasing it over few days but he just refuses his whole bottle. So I had to make some up on the side with some water and syringe it into his mouth whilst he drinks he bottle but he screams absolute bloody murder it's horrible. I'm pretty sure that it's not actually making a difference to his silent reflux he sounds worse then he has ever been. Personally carobel really isn't working for us and it's such a hassle I'm not a fan either. However there r plenty of people who do have better experiences with it. Not sure it's a good solution jf ur baby has really bad reflux like mine x
We used to half it etc so an 8oz bottle we did 4 scoops, 6 oz 3 scoops but it’s very baby dependent x
