I just learned that the heaviest newborn to be vaginally delivered without assistance of medications was 22 pounds in 1879.
The heaviest baby ever born naturally was a boy who weighed 22 pounds and was born in Ohio in 1879. The baby's mother, Anna Bates, was 7 ft 11 in tall and had giantism. The baby, who was not named, died 11 hours after birth.

I had a NICU baby and she was one of the bigger babies in there at only 8lbs 4oz (she inhaled meconium fluid and needed oxygen while her lungs healed) but the nurses were talking to us about the biggest babies they’ve seen come in there (all due to gestational diabetes) and one of the bigger ones was 14lbs!
I also had a nicu baby at 10lb2.5oz! He was 4 weeks early and was suppose to be breach, midwife said “he’s not breach he’s just huge”😂 my little girl was then the same at 9lb12.5oz x
My sister was 11lb 2oz 😬
My second baby who will be 1 at the weekend was 10lbs 10oz and I thought I had it tough 😳😅😅
My son was 10lb 6 40+3 and my daughter was 10lb 3 2 weeks early at 38+2
That’s so sad 😢 just read her Wikipedia and she had another baby 18lb who didn’t survive either.
Apparently she was in the greatest showman guy’s circus, met a giant husband, was gifted a wedding dress and ring by queen Victoria - sounded like she lived an interesting but pretty short life.
My sister’s had pretty big babies - biggest was 11lb6oz!
My first was 10lb12oz and 62cm long I never met any with a bigger baby only heard stories my 2nd was tiny compared to her sister at only 8lb 9oz 52cm
I wonder why her babies didnt survive and if it had anything to do with the gigantism 🤔
I’m honestly shocked she had more kids. Because I can’t imagine what ones goes through to push out a toddler size infant.
But then again—it’s 1879 so preventing a pregnancy wasn’t exactly easy and she’s a women..😂 so she was limited on everything in life.

yeah I’d guess it’s pretty likely (even though infant mortality was generally much higher across the board in those days).
Anna herself died of heart failure and I think that’s a pretty common way to go as it’s so much pressure on the heart. I’d imagine there’d be a mix of other complications being so large too.
she had the girl first, then the boy. It’s huge for a newborn but I wonder if scaled down it’d be like a 8lb-er to a regular height woman 🤔 (I’d work it out if I was any good at maths!)
