Carobel for Silent Reflux

We’ve been prescribed carobel for suspected silent reflux and I have 2 questions about it for those that have used it previously:

1. We have been using Kendamil comfort formula. I understand comfort formulas are already thicker than regular formula powders so am I supposed to continue using the comfort formula and add the carobel to this, or should I be adding it to regular formula powder instead?

2. How long did it take for it help/ for you to notice a difference in your baby?

Thanks!

I'm not sure about the milk type but you'll likely need to buy faster flow teats. Probably a size 2.

Also, it's unusual to be prescribed just a thickener for silent reflux.
Have they ruled out CMPA and tongue tie?
Have they tried little one on omeprazole or lansoprazole? x

Our baby girl has been suffering with reflux and we have been advised to use carobel and see how she gets on. Yesterday was her first day with it mixed into her milk and we can already tell a little but noticeable difference. The only thing that they told us is that it will not stop the discomfort or pain that she will be feeling from reflux and only stop her from bringing up milk x

you shouldn’t add a thickener (carobel / gaviscon) to comfort or anti reflux milk as they are already thickened formulas, you’d have to use normal formula but then it could cause abit of discomfort for a short while due to change over.
I’d ask doctor to check for tongue tie or CMPA. And also ask for omeprazole / lanzoprazole.

My little one had tongue tie so had it snipped and has been on omeprazole for 4 weeks now and there’s been a huge difference. Currently on anti reflux milk too as gaviscon / carobel didn’t work for us! X

We used it for our boy for around 2 weeks, it made him constipated though. And since we’ve stopped using it he’s been fine, still had a few spit ups but not sick like before and the discomfort appears to of eased.

We found that upping the teet size on his bottles really helped with how gassy he was getting. Apparently if the teets are too small for them it increased the amount of air they inhale, so maybe try upping the teet size too? X

He had a tongue tie at birth which was snipped but it made no difference to his feeding/ gas situation. CMPA was mentioned but they said to start with this and see how it goes as they think it’s unlikely to be CMPA. Out of interest why is unusual to be prescribed a thickener for reflux?

Oh that’s interesting because tbh he doesn’t bring up that much milk, it’s more the discomfort that I was concerned about!

Hi, Firstly hope you have found a solution for your LO. I am not going to be able to help you but I wanted to ask for your help. How do you find Kendamil comfort? Does it make baby constipated? What kind of discomfort do you face? And how old is your LO if you don’t mind me asking?
