Hi I’m currently 37 weeks pregnant with my first child and I recently tested positive for Group B strep. My mind is racing rn cause idk what to do or think. My entire pregnancy has been one thing after another and I’ve had many infections while pregnant like a couple times I’ve had BV and and a std that I got from my ex. I do t feel like my body is safe for my baby anymore and all I’ve heard is the horror stories of babies who get really sick or die after birth. I really don’t know what to do and I’m leaning towards asking to be induced or get a c section just to be safe. Has any moms had this before if so what are your stories and what should I do.

they give u a antibiotic through your iv before delivering so you don’t pass to your baby, i had it with my daughter 2 years ago and was also sick my whole pregnancy with her having bronchitis and such other things, im pregnant again likely to have it this time as well it’s nothing to be worried about im pretty sure what they give you is penicillin as the antibiotic tho

Nothing to be worried about. Very common. They give an antibiotic whilst in labor

Group B Strep is actually really common. It poses no risk to you and won’t hurt your baby unless it’s left untreated. You will get an IV antibiotic when you go into labor and they will keep dosing it until the baby is born (typically 1-3 doses total in my experience). Your baby will also be monitored for any signs of infection once they are born. Personally, I wouldn’t stress about testing positive. A c-section would reduce the risk of exposure to the baby, but also has its own risks to consider. Definitely talk to your doctor about it if you’re still not sure
