ADHD diagnosis

How do I go about an adhd screening for my 3 year old? She has all the traits that I had as a child and google confirms. I’m waiting for my diagnosis I’m just wondering if it’s the same process. Or do I need to ring the health visitor first? Thanks

Best to contact your health visitor or GP and they will guide you through the process, timescales, expectations etc

My sons being referred to a paediatrician through the health visitor who will then refer for diagnosis. Unfortunately I think the waiting list is several years long 😔

They dont diagnose until about 5/6 and the waiting list is years because there are soooooo many referrals. In fact I believe the list is shut in Leeds.
You need to be refered to paeds first which itself is a long wait.
In the meantime apply for an echp

I'm currently trying to get my 5 year old son diagnosed as he shows traits and been told its a very long wait and that they won't diagnosed until 6/7 usually as some of the symptoms can be 'normal' I've always had suspicions with my son but just put it down to normal behaviour and now it's getting slightly worse so took him the Dr's so just a waiting game now unfortunately... but at 3 they will not do anything at all

The GP advised us that in our area they won’t even add him to the waiting list until he’s 5 and then it’s roughly a 3 year wait from there 🙃 not sure what I should do in the mean time

unless you want medication then just follow the advice on the Internet and apply for echp based on needs. Diagnosis doesn't actually get you anything apart from meds and even with that it's hit and miss. Same with autism diagnosis. Zero support :(

thank you, I’ll have a look 😊

My health visitor is coming out to access my son this week coming and then potentially referred somewhere else. We are already on the waiting list for speech and language plus to get grommets so if there's anything else I might look to go private

Just curious as to what traits everyone is noticing and how these differ from normal toddler behaviour? I notice so much in my little girl but just keep convincing myself she’s a normal toddler

it was the nursery who mentioned to me.. so he's not just hyper at times and he had settled times he's constantly running up and down. Won't do a task for more than 5 mins. He's having outbursts which usually result in hurting him or someone. The nursery said he isn't processing and understanding what he's done. His outbursts can last anywhere for 30 to an hour and 45 mins which I struggle to calm him down. I have two kids and there was a huge difference between them.

that's the thing, you can't tell till they are older whether they will grow out of it which is why they don't diagnose until older.
I will say though that if one of the parents is Nd then it's often the case one of the kids is!
We are all Nd in our house apart from my husband so I actually have no idea what a NT kid would be like 😂
