Looking for recommendations for hair care.

My daughter is mixed she’s half white (I have wavy hair) and half Indian. She has beautiful ringlets. I love her hair and want to know if any parents have a better routine for the curly haired kiddos. Currently I use Cantu kids I’m open for trying new products just want what’s best for my kids hair. She loves her hair being done but I notice it’s very dry and grows slow as well. Any hair help it welcome

White and Indian heritage, their hair can range from wavy to curly or coily, often with a mix of fine strands and high density. This texture can be prone to dryness and tangling, so gentle, moisture-rich care is key.

Here’s a simple, nurturing hair care routine especially for young girls:

🛁 1. Pre-Shampoo Oil Treatment (1–2x/week)

Purpose: Detangle, strengthen, and reduce breakage.

Use light oils like sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, or light coconut oil.

Massage gently into scalp and coat the strands. Leave for 20–60 mins before washing.

🧡 Optional: Add a bit of aloe vera juice to soothe the scalp if it's sensitive.

🧼 2. Gentle, Sulfate-Free Shampoo

Use something like SheaMoisture Kids Curl & Shine Shampoo or Cantu Kids Tear-Free Nourishing Shampoo.

Focus on cleansing the scalp gently without stripping natural oils.

💧 3. Conditioner or Flaxseed Gel (Leave-In)

One of my favorite DIYs is flaxseed gel ; it’s been amazing for both me and my daughter’s hair!

Here’s how I make it:

In a mason jar, add about 1 cup of flaxseeds (you can adjust this amount later based on how much gel you want).

Boil water separately, then pour it into the jar over the seeds.

Stir for about 60–90 seconds until it starts looking gel-like.

Strain with a cheesecloth (available at Dollarama or Amazon), either right away or after letting it sit at room temp or in the fridge.

Refrigerate the gel to keep it fresh ; it’s good for up to 7 days.

🌀 This gel works as:

A detangler

A leave-in or rinse-out conditioner

A curl definer

Even as a pre-shampoo treatment every now and then.

Optional: Add a drop of glycerin or honey to boost moisture.

If DIY isn’t your thing, here are two great store-bought options:

Mielle Pomegranate & Honey Leave-In Conditioner

Mixed Chicks Leave-In Conditioner

🧴 4. Moisturizer + Light Curl Cream or Gel

Apply a moisturizing cream and seal with a curl-friendly gel.

Try Kinky Curly Curling Custard or Uncle Funky’s Daughter Curl Magic.

🛌 5. Night Routine

Use a satin/silk pillowcase or bonnet to reduce breakage and tangling.

Optional: Light braid or twist to stretch hair overnight and prevent knots.

🌟 Extra Tip:

Make detangling fun! Use a wide-tooth comb or your fingers while the hair is slippery with conditioner or flaxseed gel. Mixed textures are delicate ; it's not about forcing a brush, it's about guiding the curls.

I have a mixed little one too, and from babyhood up to now, it’s definitely been a journey of trial and error with products to figure out what works best for her hair.

I’ve found SheaMoisture to be a solid brand, but for a more natural and multi-use option, I love using flaxseed gel ; it’s great for everything I mentioned earlier. Whether it’s a quick slick-back or a simple protective style, it helps keep her hair smooth and her curl pattern defined.

My daughter’s hair is more on the kinky-coily side. Try and figure out where your little one’s curl pattern falls; and honestly, TikTok and social media have been super helpful for seeing what other parents are trying and what might work for similar textures.

Also if anything find an indian salon..they may help with just simple routines..hair masks really help too ..social media though will help with experimenting
