Girls' spot was going to be trans and women's only gym. But after a large Muslim population stated they wouldn't be able to work out at the gym with biological men. The owner decided it would be a female cisgendered gym. That keeping out men is her main goal. And has made multiple comments about men being attackers, etc.

Disappointing, though not surprising I don’t think, to see her back track on her inclusivity policy- which is what got her traction for her gym in the first place.
Anyway, appreciate that a female gym is a good concept particularly for those that have experienced gym intimidation or sexual violence and assault from men…. Just sad to see that a primary risk group for that, trans women, have yet again found themselves excluded, as if they don’t deserve a safe place to work out too 👎🏻
There isn’t an answer that’s going to please everyone. But as it doesn’t align with my values and beliefs, I wouldn’t be a paying customer at her gym.

I think the trans rule was made because some Muslim women said they wouldn’t be able to work out with biological males around. I haven’t read up on it that much but I don’t think it was a rule made strictly to be transphobic.

Okay nvm I just read about it, and it is just a transphobic rule. Idk why OP mentioned Muslim women, as everything I’ve read says the owner made it cisgendered because of SA concerns 😭
@Jenna no it was Muslim women who stated they cannot be in a state of undress infront of biological men. It was originally trans inclusive.

It was trans inclusive 4 years ago when funding began. Recently, the owner went back on being inclusive stating it was due to concerns of SA and harassment. The owner hasn’t said anything in her statements about Muslim women.

@Jenna there was a tic tock of her saying the Muslim community and SA also on her Instagram. It would take me a while to find it. But it's from her mouth not an article.

Support for the Girls Spot in the UK. 🫶🏽
@🩷 Patience 🩷 I would assume if they look male or are assigned but also idk. Not my gym i think if she wanted it to only be female she shouldn't have said it was going to be inclusive to begin with because it was crowd funded.
@🩷 Patience 🩷 honestly her reasoning seems she is afraid of men pretending to be trans and trying to create space for Muslim woman. Because they are high population in that part of the uk.I just think she didn't have an actual plan for the gym outside the esthetics. And she should refund people who paid in with the idea of being able to go and now can't. I don't think female only gym is bad idea as it already exists. And majority of gyms are unisex so I don't think transwomen are heavily affected by one or a few gyms being female only.
@Erica If she is refunding people then I think it's fine she's doing a females only gym.

personally idc whether or not there’s men while i’m working out. sometimes its nice on the eyes 😉😂

Id love it! Feel a lot safer
