Just wondering how many people cap their child’s naps? I’ve been consistently capping daughters (20 months) naps for months now at 1.5 hours which was always ok. Recently she’s started to be very difficult when waking, a lot of crying and very grumpy so today I didn’t and let her sleep, she slept over two hours before I woke her up in the end…just wondering if sleep needs can sometimes increase?
I might regret it if she’s up half the night…🙈

I have to wake my son every day, I let him sleep 3hrs, if I leave him he’s slept 4.5 before 😂 he’s grumpy when I wake him up but a few stories on my lap or Miss Rachel for half an hour normally perks him up

Following as I’m interested to see if she sleeps ok tonight! I wake her up after 1.5 hours too but as you say she is fast asleep and doesn’t wake up easily and then grumpy all afternoon! Perks up a bit in the evening. I’m always tempted to let her sleep longer but she’s only started sleeping though the night recently and I’m too scared to change the schedule! Xx

Sometimes they need more sleep when they’re having a growth spurt or fighting an illness

I don’t usually wake him up but he can sleep for around 2 and a half hours but then I find he sleeps better at night, although bed time gets later if he naps later. Today he hasn’t napped at all, put to bed an hour and half ago and he’s woken up crying already so I find that it’s easier to just let him nap, I’m going to try get his nap time earlier around 12:30 so that he is still tired early enough for bed but it’s difficult x

I second what Abby said - I don’t cap the amount he has but I make sure he is awake by around 1.30. If he’s poorly I leave him to sleep xxx

I’ve never woke my daughter up unless I’ve had an appointment or something! when she gets woken up she’s so miserable, an absolute nightmare 😂 she wakes up at about 7 and goes for a nap that could be anywhere up to 3 hours around 10/10:30 then she’s good until bedtime at 7!

My son has always been a rubbish sleeper. His naps have been around hour and a half since 12months and less once he started nursery in sept, however in the last month he has upped his nap time at nursery to 2-2.5hrs and at home has sometimes reached 2.5-3hrs, I have started to just leave him and I have found that night time sleep has also got better. So I assumed to myself that the need for more sleep has increased since he has been learning so much new stuff

Is there a reason why you are capping the naps? Is she napping too late? My daughters naps can vary in length between 1-3 hours but I let her sleep until she wakes herself unless it's really late and close to dinner. Depending on how the day and night before went, she may need longer sleep to catchup

Thanks everyone. I’d put her down a bit earlier for her nap yesterday so she was only about 25minutes later getting up than usual. Her usual bedtime is 7.30ish, was probably closer to 8pm by the time she went to sleep and she’s only just woken up now at 7am when usually she is 6/6.30am so maybe she does need the extra sleep!

I don’t cap them but we did do some work with a sleep coach.
They recommend not letting them sleep after 2o clock as then they will be tired for bedtime.
My little boy can vary from 1 hour to 2 1/2 hours sleep. It depends on how he’s slept the night before but it definitely makes him tired by bed time x

I don’t cap the time of the nap but I make sure she’s awake by 3pm. She usually goes down somewhere between 1-1.30 but was 12.30 when she was really tired the other day. Not sure if it was a coincidence but her sleep was awful that night xx
