My son was exactly the same he would even eat 6 ounces out of 12 I had pumped for him for the day at day care. I just broke it down into smaller multiple feedings. Feeding him every hour and a half. Also feeding him foods and frequent snacks. It gets better when they turn a year old. My son started walking at 8 months so they keep saying it’s cause he started walking early he’s burning more calories but he is just a foodie now will only breastfeed at night throughout the day he just eats food and is gaining weight better! I’m trying to wean him off completely he is 13 months but he acts so upset and won’t go asleep until I give him the boob at night time.
Breastfeed babies are meant to be fed on demand. They don't need nor should they follow the same feeding amounts as formula fed babies. Breastmilk changes often to be exactly what baby needs. Has baby recently become more mobile? Is the pediatricians using a growth chart for formula fed babies? Or are they following your individual child's growth curve with consideration for how tall/short you & dad are? If you or baby are have any troubles related to breastfeeding consult an IBCLC. They're trained specialists on breastfeeding... pediatricians are not educated sufficiently in breastfeeding or nutrition.
Is it breast milk or formula. Babies who are breastfed typically only need 1-1.5 oz per hour. So that would only be 24-36oz per day but just like adults babies can be more hungry one day and less hungry the next. If your baby is on the move they won’t be gaining as much weight as they have in the past because they are burning calories as they crawl around and play
We’re doing breastmilk. There are days he drinks 1oz the entire day and even that was a struggle. He’s mobile/crawling. They use the Wellstar system, I’m not sure which graph they are using. The concern from the doctor is that he’s declined in percentile. He’s not been consistent in his weight gain. Oh, it’s important to mention that we feed him every 4 hours.
1oz per day? Are you also feeding him solids? If so i would severely cut back on solids breastmilk/formula always come first before 1.
Yes, 1oz from a bottle, a little more with the morning nursing session, then at night he didn’t want to nurse (barely 5 min on the breast). That specific day he didn’t want to eat a lot too, so we blamed it on the teething.
Okay so you are also nursing and giving a bottle. Your baby at 9 months is very efficient at the breast most likely. They are probably getting plenty if you are nursing and bottle feeding
If that was the case he would be gaining weight consistently. That’s why we worry.
One way I have gotten my daughter to drink more milk is to offer a sippy cup of milk with Peanut butter toast. She takes a sip after every 2-3 bites. She drank her milk with hummus and oatmeal too. Pretty much anything thick. I'm definitely no doctor, but I feel like 30 ounces is a lot. We just had a 9 month appointment for my daughter and she was an 86th percentile baby. Her growth has slowed down and I was told that's normal. Her pediatrician also said breastmilk and solids should be 50/50 for nutrition at this point as long as she's taking to solids well. She used to drink 32 oz a day. She drinks around 23-27 ounces a day now. And never drinks more than 6 ounces at once. Idk what others think, but maybe consider a second opinion?
