Supply drop

Been to get little one weighed again this morning. She keeps dropping on the graph. Taking her to be weighed again on Monday and if she’s gone down again they will put a plan in place. She gained weight really well to begin with and only lost 3.3% at her 5 day check then at her 10 day check she was 3.3% over her birth weight and was gaining weight really well.

She’s now really long and looks healthy and happy but she’s not got the new born chunk. She’s not lost weight and is still gaining but slower and is now on the 9th percentile line when she was born she was on 50th.

She’s having a feed then at the end is pulling off and patching again. Doing a few cries then latching again ect.

I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. I had to go on antibiotics at about a month and a half in and i feel like maybe since then it’s got worse but they said it wouldn’t affect my supply. Im sat sobbing as i feel like Ive let her down

Have you considered supplementing with formula until your supply re-regulates?

Are you offering both breasts each feed, after around 30 mins on one if she’s feeding that long (or if you can tell your breast feels empty)?

I’ve just started antibiotics today and I’m sure it’ll affect my supply. I was on them after birth and it did affect my supply. Expressing to increase supply helped me.

I’m going to try pumping to get it back up. I’m not sure if it’s my supply or it’s coming our too slow for her.

Bother breasts are being offered and she will drink a lot from them. Just not finishing in the day. At night she will drink until she falls asleep.

I would never feel this way about another mum and ild tell them do what’s best for them and baby. Ive been told by family and my partner that im too hard on myself. If this is the end of the breast feeding journey im just sad as we was doing so well. She latched straight away and gained weight so quick when she was a month old. I just want to try what i can to get that back before she starts preferring bottles

I’m going through the exact same with my little girl who is 10 weeks old. Could your little one have got a tongue tie? We have 1 bottle a day just before bed which my husband gives which is really nice whilst I pump and I alternate 1 day it’s formula and the next it’s expressed breast milk and then I pump after 1 of her feeds in the morning to try and bump my supply up which is seeming to help. It sounds like your little one is gaining every time which is really reassuring and your definitely not letting your little one down it sounds like you’ve done amazing, it’s because your a good mummy why your worrying xx

Personally, I think there is not necessarily anything wrong with that growth chart. Lots of things can cause it to look like she's dropped weight but the character limit on here won't let me describe all of them, but that chart doesn't look that drastic to me. 3 months is when your supply starts to regulate and the let down of milk doesn't happen quite as quickly so they get frustrated, my baby was exactly like that at 3 months so it isn't necessarily because of a drop in supply, usually the opposite. Has your health visitor or GP expressed concern?

Oh also, my baby was never chunky but is perfectly healthy. Not all babies have the "newborn chunk" look! They're just as different in shape as adults 😊 but you've got to do what is right for you at the end of the day x

Im going to get her weighed again monday like they suggested at the weigh in clinic and see how she is then. I called the health visitor this morning as I didn’t want to wait until Monday and see if she drops again and she said that everything sounds ok and it might be shes had a development leap which has caused it or she could just be following this line (what she also said at the 25th line) and We went to center parcs last week and went swimming 3 times in 4 days so that probably didn’t help and I didn’t even think that we were maybe over doing it.

Could you feel baby’s spine when feeding her? Im now paranoid about this too

Avatar

I can feel her spine now, if you feel your back you can feel yours too probably! If health visitor isn't worried yet you honestly have nothing to worry about. Your baby hasn't actually lost weight, she's just gaining slowly, but any gain is fine. If she'd actually lost weight that'd be another story.

thank you. I think I heard drop and keep thinking shes gone down when shes still gone up. Just not as fast. Shes very long at her 28 day check she was 51cm

8week check sorry x

It's okay, it's normal we all panic about these things x

I got myself in such a state about it which probably didn’t help her. Hopefully they say it’s all good on Monday 🤞
