My boy was 6 months on 28th August, we weaned a few days later as he caught a cold but a week early should be fine! We went straight to led weaning. Of course it's so scary but as long as you know red + gagging is fine, blue + silent = need to intervene you'll be all good 😊 I find led weaning easier cos he literally has what we have I just cut it appropriately for him x
So u can start from 4 months initially, depending how your child is. I started at 5 weeks with just tasting fruits and veg like a lick or something until he showed signs of wanting more. With water, I boil it in the morning and give it to him once it has cooled down. My LO has weetabix for breakfast and fruit or veg for lunch. Starting off small is best and see how your baby is with it to see if you can give more or less. This is just a rough guide as all babies r different ofc so they'll eat at their own pace. I think baby led weaning is ok as long as you are on alert and you know what to do in case they do choke. It is normal for babies to gag as they're getting used to new foods and textures and they're gag reflex is just starting up.
Oh water. Before 6 months it should be cooled boiled water. After 6 months they can have tap. Same with sterilising plates & cutlery, after 6 months you don’t need to. Start with one meal. Breakfast or lunch are good. Try to get allergens out of the way asap too. Feel free to message me any time if you have more questions ☺️
Thank you everyone. I have A son who is nearly 16 so things are so different from then to now. 15 year age gap I have forgotten pretty much everything lol. I'm going to do mixture of puree and led weaning which I think will be better for us And our little girl. Xx
We started 2 weeks early, when she turned 24 weeks. We felt like she is ready but only giving purees until she is 6 months. We have a highchair but we dont use it yet, she sits on my lap for now. I feed her if she seems to like what I offer. She is happy with all the veg we tried but absolutely hates banana - we tried fresh and a sachet. We give 2-3 meals a day but she only has a few baby spoons each time. We do give water in a tommee tippee sippy cup, its bottled water, still.
Purées starting at 4 months then blw at 6 months. It’s been going great. I got over my fear of blw. Video of my precious feeding herself. Did take a while before she started though
Hi! Best thing I did when I weaned my twins a couple of years ago was download the Solid Starts app. It tells you how to serve pretty much every food so that it’s safe for every age. I just gave them food to play with and only did meals once they were eating properly. If can seem like they’ll never get it, don’t believe all those videos on social media that show them eating properly right away, they’re the lucky ones 😂 I did a mix of solid food and purees. Just made it fun. You can start food once/twice a day and then build it up to three meals and snacks. Food before 1 is just for fun anyway as they get all their nutrients from milk until then xx
