As a mom in general but twin mom especially my heart hurts. Have you heard about the 19 Black twin boys killed and left on a mountain trail. Police originally say it was a murder suicide but since it happened near a known sundown town people were suspicious. It’s now coming out a volunteer firefighter in the area was sharing pictures of their death.

I'm in the UK so haven't heard about that. It sounds incredibly sad though. We had a particular case here where a mum left her 2 sets of twins at home alone to go to shop and they all died in a fire... I'm sure there is more to the story but the details never get reported. It's so sad tbh.

I’ve learned people in Europe don’t typically know what a sundown town is. Do you?

I’m British and I literally have no idea what a sundown town is. What is it?

There’s a man on Tik tok making to a website too

"Suicide" is the new go to that police use to cover up modern lynchings

@Daija admittedly I don't but I will Google it now.

they are towns throughout the U.S. minorities (more specifically Black people) aren’t allowed to be especially after “sundown” or the towns people will kill them

she doesn’t know the significance of sundown towns. I don’t think she was trying to down play the situation

that is shocking 😳
Those poor boys and their families 😔

Sundown towns do not exist in most states and are most common in the South. They never went away, and there's not normally signage to notify you, hence the Green Book.
Black people would normally pack everything needed so that we didn't need to stop anywhere on the road; my family still does this because we always drive when we go back to Florida. For over 60 years, my family still stops at the same places on the road, and in an emergency, we were taught to look for truck stops because there are a significant amount of truckers who are Black, along with truck stops having the most resources and visibility. I went to college in the South and followed the same rules as my grandparents did.
Because a lot of people were stationed elsewhere in the military, the preparedness approach has always been common, even in how we stock our homes. It's also why we're taught to always reverse into a parking spot in the case that we need to leave expeditiously and to never let the gas tank get below half a tank.

sundown towns are all over not just in the south. I had to send my husband of list of sundown towns for his work trip in Connecticut and good thing I did cause he got invited to a golf stimulation in one by his white coworker.
I agree with the rest though I was taught to never stop in SC at night

There’s a website, if I can find it I’ll post it. But it lists all the towns around America that still have that sundown town mindset.

yea and since it’s usually police, firefighters, judges etc that do it they get away with it often times

I'm aware, but to say "most" is hyperbolic. This has always been a part of my life, so I'm being clear in my language.

@Claudette ❤️ that make it just even worse doesn't it. Like how does this still go on? It's heartbreaking.

I have googled and OMFG. I have no words. I am shocked and appalled whilst also sadly not being that shocked. US needs to fix up that is just indescribably abhorrent.

@Daija I've only just had a chance to Google and hit post on my reply to her, so I didn't see the inbetween comments until now. It just makes you sad for kids trying to raise them in a world so shit knowing you only have so much control as a mum x

I think saying they don’t exist in “most” states and are “most” common in the south is wrong and dangerous

Is it this one? https://justice.tougaloo.edu/sundown-towns/using-the-sundown-towns-database/state-map/

YES!!! lol I got distracted doing lunch time and forgot to look. It’s crazy clicking on your state and be like yup I knew there was a reason I didn’t wanna go there. There’s so many in my home state (CT) which is tiny

Girlll, I clicked on GA and let me tell you!!!! Every time I have to drive through Forsyth, GA I HATE IT!!!! I definitely believe you. It’s also the fact that some towns aren’t even on that map.

CT surprised me! I used this for my husband’s work trip and his white coworker and invited him to one of them to golf. He had just transferred to CT from Jersey so was unaware. My

it’s places on the MD list that I’m like ahh makes sense. They some are more diverse now but you can feel it

it was a black woman on TikTok literally bawling her eyes out because she got stuck in a sundown down. I don’t remember what exactly happened but the thing with these towns…it’s easy to hide lynching and other murders without folks ever knowing.

I saw a TikTok about it yesterday… it keeps getting worse and worse 💔💔💔

When I read about the ones in my own state it shook me to my core! It’s even more terrifying having to raise a black boy here knowing everything was built against him from the jump 💔

a Tik toker with a lot of followers helped her move but then the girl got clout hungry and shit hit the fan

no seriously this hit me hard having black twin boys. I couldn’t imagine losing my boys like this

I'm white and I know about sundown towns, but I only recently learned about them. I just clicked on the link because I was curious about sundown towns in my state (I'm outside of Detroit in Michigan). I'm not surprised by some on the list, but others surprised me. All of this breaks my heart. I really wish we lived in a peaceful and loving world.

yess ! 💔 there wouldn’t be a town left with the pain I would’ve felt . Its sickening this stuff is STILL HAPPENING IN Freaking 2025 and its not getting any better

Whattt??? WOWWWW, that’s insane
