Weaning

Hi, have any of you mummy’s starting weaning yet? My little boy is 4 months and I’m thinking of doing it to try make him more full so he can actually start trying to sleep a full night. This morning he has his porridge with a little apple pouch mixed

It’s not recommended till 6 months unless your healthcare provider tells you it is ok. Can cause all sorts of issues in the future. I did this with my eldest and deeply regret it

I started weaning my LO at 3 months, health visitor suggested it as my LO was always hungry and wasn't sleeping through the night. Best thing to do is give some puree/Porridge just before bed if you are aiming for a full night's sleep x

@Olivia can I ask why you deeply regret it ? Does your child have health issues now ect ? X

It's a myth that weaning will help them sleep through the night. It might happen for some babies but it's likely coincidental. Some babies also struggle a bit with their digestion when they start weaning and have more interrupted sleep because of it. So it's not really a good reason to wean early. It's entirely developmentally normal for them to wake in the night at the moment. Trying to make your baby sleep longer or through the night is not recommended, the lullaby trust put a post on IG this week about this. Night wakings are normal and are a protective factor against SIDS, deliberately trying to make them sleep longer than their natural sleep cycle is not recommended. I know it's hard, but you've not got long to wait until the recommended age anyway. So just wait the few extra weeks

Yes, she does

I started weaning my LB, but only because I was advised to by a paediatric dietician, he currently has baby porridge for breakfast (dairy free) and a blended version of whatever we’re eating for dinner (all dairy free again) we offer milk first and then he eats what he wants of the food. We were advised to start due to him having milk allergies and not getting enough calories or nutrients from hypoallergenic formula and having terrible reflux so unable to keep his milk down easily.

@Sophie hi 👋 can I ask how do you make the porridge?

@Helena Just 2 baby spoons of porridge and add his formula milk until smooth and thin enough for him. I use the Tesco Own banana porridge

Thank you

@Olivia hi, could you tell why you are regretting early weaning?
