I have created a really bad habit for me and my two-year-old watching way too much TV. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to stop? Any rules they set for their kids or just bully me into being better lol,
We do activities all the time and we still clean and get our work done, but i have a bad habit of leaving the TV on. Especially when I’m solo cleaning I’ll let him watch his shows. Which is a horrible habit I need to break. Does anyone have any advice?

Setting a timer or alarm for yourself might help. Or limiting the screen time by the number of episodes. Maybe involving your child in the cleaning you’re doing, as long as it’s not dangerous ofc

Maybe transition to listening to music instead while doing things and when there’s a little downtime during the day he can watch an episode of his fav show and then back to music?

Definitely not a horrible mom. TV isn't the devil, it's not great to have too much (even for us adults) but it will be okay. I've gone over this same thing in therapy and that's what my therapist keeps reminding me. It doesn't make you a bad mom to have the TV on.
You can always switch to music, or audio stories. Ik YouTube has some. Or if you have a tony box those are good too!

We swapped every single tv in our house to a projector.
The one in the living room, you can really only see clearly at nighttime, when there’s any natural light you can’t see it, so it cuts down on screen time naturally, even if I want to have noise happening in the background and even when you can see it all the light defuses before it ever reaches your actual eye balls
We also got a lot more movement based activities right before winter hit, we got a lil tunnel to play in, we got stepping stones to set out and jump around on, a crash pad bean bag, we have far to many hot wheels so we dump them all out and pick them up in our dump truck a few dozen times a day LOL

I’m out all day 💁🏻♀️ we leave at 10 ready for his baby bounce sessions or off to meet a sahm friend at 10.30-11, and he naps for 2hrs after in the pram while I do whatever, when he wakes I’ll BF him change his nappy and otw home to start cleaning a lil and getting ready for dinner. We minimise screen time by not being home, me being out also adds up my 10k steps quite easily for my own fitness and MH.

Ooo yes I second not being home all day being effective!

I have music playing most of the day, about half of it is children’s music and the other half is my music. I also have a “curfew” with TV at 6pm so it doesn’t affect my LO’s sleep, she sleeps at 9pm. I used to allow it first thing in the morning but now I don’t, now my rule is at least 1 hour after wake up but it’s always much longer because that’s just when my LO’s brain is fresh enough to entertain herself for a long time.

I limit screen time and slow it on certain days like through Thursday none weekends is okay but limit to no more than one or two hours ( he normally gets bored and plays in his room or outside)

Turn the TV off and say its broken. Maybe the TV will be fixed in a week😉

I personally also do use screentime but its mostly when i am doing work in the kitchen area or eating other than that i do take her out. Also i stopped cocomelon at once i heard the negative effects from it .i put lalafun or cartoons which hav very low colour contrast or no flashy images just plain

Also music is a good option ,but daughter is about to be a year old and she loves music

When we don’t want to use screens, we just put music on Spotify on the tele/Alexa and listen to that. We do absolutely have TV time though - she typically watches Paddington/Bluey at the end of the day. One thing I’ve noticed is that (possibly due to relying on screens at times) my daughter sometimes struggles with independent play, so in the past if I’m cooking when my husband is working, I’ve popped the tele on to ensure I can cook her tea. This then meant that when I didn’t do that, she was used to relying on the tele at independent time and would come to find me to see what I’m doing 😅 we’re making a huge effort to model how to independently play at the minute (she still likes to play with us though, and isn’t really a solo child 😂). While she naps/is playing alone, I set up activities that she can do independently when/if I need to get something done. They only usually last 15 minutes or so but better than nothing!

this is the way to go! I sign my kids up for community center classes. Dad takes our older one after school hours, i take off the days for our younger one's Classes so i can take him to things like parkour, gymnastics, alphabet appreciation and the library.
Maybe try making it a priority to get out of the house more with LO? I found that it helps me be less upset about the extra screen time that their dad let's them have!!

I dunno how other sahm can do it, being home all day. I can’t, I need to be out and about seeing people going places doing things. Obviously that cuts down on a lot of screen time as well, he does 15mins of reading w me after kinder/school, 1hr w me on his Reading Eggs and maths apps, and then I’ll allow him 1hr on his Nintendo playing Mario/Tetris while I’m cooking (w his Dad, that’s their time together)…we eat, then bath and another book or 2, and then bed.

I use screen time daily, mostly for when I need to do chores uninterrupted. We have a Tonie box which helps keep her occupied when I don’t want the tv on. Also as Kellie suggested being out, it actually so helpful. We go out before nap time in the morning (sometimes during nap time too) then by the afternoon, we pop to the shops etc to buy stuff for dinner, then it’s dinner time! This will be so much easier in the summer 🙏 I’m definitely guilty of allowing too much screen time in the winter. But we do what we have to do!

And anyone who voted bad mom is a dumbass 😪

Our Tonie Box has been helpful for reducing screen time. I do also make sure that when it is on he’s watching something more slow and less stimulating which helps with the guilt 🤣 x

ours is similar on my days off. If i we're SAHM and didn't leave the house at least 3 days i would go crazy!!! (sadly, i work full time so i only get 1-2 days with my kids each week!!)
During COVID, i had to be active with my daughter! We went on walks and drives, then did alot of learning games... it was hard to fill all the time without having placed to go!!!
