Should I have an abortion?

I found out that I'm pregnant yesterday. I had a feeling that I was but was hoping that I wasn't...

We've been trying to conceive and this month, only tried once, then a week later, I fell ill with a terrible flu. It lasted 5-6 days for me, a lot longer than my son and husband.

It's dangerous for the woman to be so violently ill so early on in conception and can result in miscarriage, or birth defects.

I just had a friend who went through up to 37 weeks and found out her baby had birth defects and it was a stillbirth.

I don't want to take any chances. I'm scared and I know if I go through with the pregnancy, I'm going to be thinking about the "what ifs" the whole time. I have anxiety.

This makes me so sad. I'd love your opinions- and a reminder for everyone to please be kind.

I think talking to your doctor is really the best thing you can do for yourself. This is a delicate matter but your pregnancy is different from your friends and everyone else’s.
Your doctor will be able to address all of your concerns, including your anxiety, and talk you through your options.

I definitely agree but our healthcare system is so shit out here. I don't have a doctor at the moment.

I've already called and given my name to say I'm pregnant as they prioritize us. Just waiting on a call back.

In the meantime, my mind is racing.

Okay, I hear that. Nothing *has* to happen right now. Give it a day or two for them to return your call.
Remember these are the same doctors you were going to trust with the pregnancy that you were trying to have, anyway. This is how it’s starting and that’s okay. They will be able to help you.

I wouldn’t have an abortion out of a fear from a “what if”, especially since you’ve been trying for a baby. There have been mothers who were told by doctors that their baby has a defect and should be aborted. The mothers continued with the pregnancy and gave birth to healthy babies. There’s a chance that everything is completely fine.

I don't normally give a "you should do this" opinion on these posts but I felt compelled to this time

You should not get an abortion because you were sick at the beginning of pregnancy. What happened to your friend is very sad but it is not a given it will happen to you. Take your vitamins (folic acid is very important) and try not to worry, and if there is any bad news, it's not from having the flu. it's a random unlucky horrible thing, but it's not your or anyone else's fault who finds themselves in that situation

Talk to a doctor. I think it’s risky if you take medications for the flu. But you shouldn’t have an abortion just because you have the flu. I was sick for 2-3 weeks with a cold and had a healthy pregnancy. I’m not sure about the flu because I’m not a doctor
