My son has decided that he wants to start grinding his back teeth ( he’s 2 ) any ideas how I can get him to stop doing this before he damages his teeth? It’s not even a when he’s asleep thing he does it when wide awake . He will just sit there reading a book or drawing grinding his teeth together

Grinding is commonly a sign of something else happening, he may be going through a developmental leap, going through some changes (maybe potty training/going to nursery etc), or may be doing it to help process his day. You could practice some breathing with him, telling him to unclench is jaw, drop his tongue down, open his mouth nice and slowly like a big lion roar etc, that way he can give everything a relax and a stretch.

I did this a lot as a kid. My mom noticed I’d do it more when I was getting sick. It’s usually a sign of stress of some sort.

he tends to do it when he’s concentrating on something and he’s been going to nursery since he was 6 months old , he’s also non verbal
