Toilet training

I feel my wee boy is reading to start going to the toilet/potty. I wasn’t planning on to much pressure but just even trying every time he gets changed and at least introduce it slowly. I mentioned to his nursery and the staff told me they don’t have a toilet in the baby room just changing room, it’s in the 2-3 room and she kinda just looked at me, no offer to take him there or to help support. I was taken a back so told them to just leave it that’s ok, it can wait to he moved in June to the 2-3 but see how the more I think about it I’m a bit like surely she should of been supportive straight from the start and not made me feel like I was stupid to try while still in the baby room 🙈

Our baby room was the same, but during our settle in session i noticed a portable potty. Could you see if you can provide that. Tbf I wouldn’t expect them to be allowed to leave the room with your child to use a toilet, as would cause problems with the ratios every time your child needed the loo.

I would take a portable potty in for them. If your little one is ready you won't be able to hold off. Good luck x

@Sharna I do understand that I am a nursery practitioner granted with the council so only children over 3 so never came across the exact problem but I’d never put a child who is ready off toilet training just because they can’t provide a toilet, his nursery are very lucky and only 6 children and don’t work to such a tight 1:3 ratio. I’m more annoyed how it was dismissed, granted he only goes 2 full days but I do think 2 full days is enough to confuse if it’s not working the same as home if you get me. I will ask about a potty but I was under the impression they weren’t allowed them to be brought in for infection control, but I could be wrong x

@Lena I definitely will ask, I think I just under the impression they weren’t allowed them to be brought in for infection control, but I could be wrong. I just think the same if he’s ready why wait x

My nursery would say the same tbh. The logistics of taking a kid out of a room to use toilet facilities is actually a big ask when you consider the ratios and rules they have to follow. I think they would hope you'd initiate what support you would want consider their setup maybe. I know it's very rigid for in the 3yr plus rooms that if the kid isn't potty trained yet then again changing facilities are there so you end up forced to get the trained by then. The issue with nurseries is the rigidity in development timelines are very much set by the age vs cost effectiveness.

I can't see why if you take wipes for them to clean it. If they won't take little one to the toilet they kind of need to do something. Changing s nappy and wiping the potty with a wipe I can't see much difference it sounds like laziness on them x
