Rolling in cot

Maybe I am late to the party but my LB has been slow to start rolling as I didn't really encourage it for this exact reason, he learnt to roll at 7 months and will no longer lie on his back for more than a couple of minutes. He's almost scooting and crawling now during the day. He has just realised he can roll onto his front in his cot and it's an absolute nightmare. During the day I have seen him roll from back to front/front to back, however with his sleep bag on, he rolls over the second you leave the room but he can't seem to roll back. He tilts his head eventually but he still very much smushes his face into the mattress and looks like he struggles on his front until he passes out on his tummy. We go in straight away and turn him over but every time he wakes we have the same battle and I'm up and down like a yoyo during the night. What is everyone else doing if baby rolls onto his tummy at night? Are you leaving them? Also i have only ever used a sleep bag for a blanket and I'm starting to think it may be better to stop using the bag to help my son move around if he wants to, as he seems frustrated at being 'stuck' on his stomach despite continually putting himself on his front. What are the alternatives to a sleep bag? There's no way and bog standard blanket will work as my baby is so active and fidgety, he will definitely pull at it and throw it off. Hoping there are some hacks or alternatives I have not been able to find during my Google searches.

We use sleeping bags, always have, at least since we were not allowed to swaddle and my girl now never sleeps on her back. We don't consider it a deep sleep until we see her roll! Usually to one side but sometimes to her belly. We leave her be, she will cry out if she needs us. I put her to sleep on her back, she does the rest

We use love to dream sleep suits, so technically a sleeping bag but with legs fitted. My LB hated the sleeping bags as he couldn’t move and touch his toes etc. My LB also rolls around and sleeps on his front most nights. We just leave him as he can comfortably roll back.

I use the togged sleepsuits from Sainsbury’s instead of a sleeping bag, my girl always sleeps on her front too but I leave her to it, she can confidently roll both ways x

Thanks gals! I think I'll have a look on Sainsbury's today. He can roll around fine on the floor, just haven't seen him be able to roll back in the cot, I'll see how it goes without a sleep bag. We transitioned from the love to dream swaddle to the sleep bag and I have popped him down a couple of times without it when it's in the wash and he's been much more active before falling asleep, however I'd rather that than him feeling stuck on his tummy.

@Lindsey you can always find them on Vinted too, new with tags that’s where I get them from for cheaper x
