I work for the civil service too and mine do contribute through a voucher scheme and they top it up. We also have a nursery on site that we get discounted rates too. However, it’s still cheaper for me to send my LO elsewhere as it’s really expensive
No never heard of that . You’d be earning an extras day pay so what they have offered is really good
The extra for the nursery fees would be taxable, so that’s something to consider as you wouldn’t actually be taking home half of the nursery fee’s. You could maybe asked them to gross it up so the extra actually covers half a nursery day xx
@Sophie You still get the voucher scheme? That’s so good! We were told it was wrapping up and nobody else could access it. So annoying how different it can be across the departments. I say that’s so good but I mean paying for a nursery spot even with discount is still a killer 😮💨
My employer signed up for a scheme whereby nursery fees come out before I’m taxed on my pay - last year I saved £8k on my nursery bill!! It’s all legit and my employer gives the nursery £100 a month towards arts and crafts! Your husband is right if they want you to work more days then say ok pay my childcare. Just negotiate a payrise
Personally I haven’t heard of many workplaces that contribute to nursery fees, I’m with the civil service and they definitely don’t but they did allow me to work flexibly so I could have them in slightly shorter days at nursery. I think paying 50% for the 4th day is pretty generous, I guess it needs to be beneficial to you both so contributing more takes away from that value to them (I know that sounds brutal and your time is more than valuable, just looking at it from their view). I could just be so used to little benefits that I’d take anything though haha so other people may have better judgement. Nice that they clearly do value you though! Don’t be afraid to stick to your initial plan as well though if your not ready to give up that extra time with your son x
