Potty training - can do it but doesn’t want to

Hi ladies. Can anyone offer any tips or advice? My little girl is 3 on Saturday. We’ve been trying to toilet train for 2 months now. Started well, she was excited to wear knickers and use her sticker chart, first few days were rough as expected but things slowly got better. She’s fully able to hold her bladder and most of the time knows when she needs to go but now she just doesn’t want to. She’s not scared of the toilet or potty, she’s just not bothered. She’s much better at nursery where she asks for the toilet, she never asks at home, but it turns out she only asks if the other kids are going to use the toilet. So we’re in a situation where she’s in a nappy most of the time at home but in knickers at nursery and still not really understanding she can’t just wee and poo in her knickers. Not sure where to go from here, seems there’s not really an incentive for her to do it and there’s no consequence (rightly) for her going in her knickers. Any advice ?

Should also say, she’s in a massive No phase and asserting her independence so this is probably why but I don’t know how to tackle it now x

My little girl did this she was so stubborn it took us 4 months to be fully trained we just had a potty upstairs and down didn't put nappies on at all and just stuck with it she didn't even care half the time if she was wet! after about 2 weeks she started to do it we went over the top with praise and used chocolate buttons. After a while we took the downstairs potty away so she had to ask and the took the upstairs potty away once she got the hang of the bathroom. Some people are lucky and do it in days we weren't so fortunate but stick with it and don't go back to nappies she will do it xx

I would just remove nappies completely and when she has an accident make her clean up, talk her clothes to the laundry basket and get new ones to put on, talk about what happened, but never scold. You want to show her the real consequence of not using the potty and hopefully that will incentivise her. You could also have no clothes on at home and have the potty somewhere close to where she spends her time in and prompt her every 40 min or so. We’ve been potty trained since July and still having accidents (had a massive regression over winter because of a new addition to the family) I still keep a potty in the lounge and one in her room, but she has no issues going to the toilet if that’s closer at the time. Good luck!

@Jodie unfortunately I’ve had to put her back in nappies at home on occasions, I wish I could leave her in knickers all the time and be on top of the constant accidents but I’ve got a 1 year old too so it’s tough trying to get on top of her toilet cues. We recently had poo all over the sofa 🙈 really awful and so she was back in nappies that afternoon

@Medina thanks hun, we’ve done all this, she just doesn’t care, though she hasn’t been involved in the cleaning up so I’ll give that a go

I know it's soooooo hard i did exactly the same thing as you so I really do understand we even got to the point where the dog was eating eat 🤢 you are doing it right she will get there she obviously knows what to do if she can do it at nursery so you probably just have a stubborn little bugger like I do!xx

@Jodie omg the dog 🤢🙈

Don’t let her wear the nappy at home, she’s doing it because she can and it’s easy, no access to nappies then she’ll use the toilet, albeit a few stubborn accidents prior
