Do they seem to understand what the potty is used for? You could try a few days without the underwear and see how it goes? If not I’d revisit it in a few months.
I would suggest practicing sitting on potty for few weeks every time you do a nappy change. Read books sing songs watch songs or small shows all the exposure. Then try again but if I’m honest the first few hours / days are wet until they understand you will see them eventually get it some it takes few hours some weeks. We also did big fuss if there was a wee or poo on potty singing dancing treat pull out all the stops and when there’s an accident just saying oh no yuk and sitting on potty. We also on the early days did sitting on potty every 15-20 mins as they don’t get it at first
How long have you been potty training? We had around 3/4 days of complete chaos before she actually really got the hang of it. My HV said to give it a week and if there is no improvement at all then leave it a month or so before trying again x
@CeCe we’ve been slowly potty training for about a month, started with them wanting pants and we got the pull them up/down, tell me they need a wee or a poo, sits on during nappy changes, sometimes has a wee on the potty, puts own nappy in the bin and has even got out of the bath to do wee on the potty and then got back in the bath so thought yesterday because I’m off work for a few days take the nappy off but honestly it was like back to square one but we do have a lot of sensory issues going on so I don’t know if that’s made the situation harder. They loved making ‘puddles’ yesterday when I ditched the nappy but I’ve gone back to pull ups and we’re back to using the potty couldn’t write it 🙃
@Katie yeah they’ve been using it with mixed success and they tell me wee in there. Tried no underwear (ran out after 30 pairs) and they just made a puddle and jumped in it 🙃 i obviously was like that is yakky no Thankyou but my little one is very sensory and the more you reference negative behaviours the more they’ll do it
I would wait a few months until they’re ready, they are still very young.
